Baz
Hi chaps....Sorry I haven't been around much lately, lots going on, and very little time for online stuff....Instead I've been golfing, power kiting, enjoying my SUPERB Mazda MX-5, and spending time at the gym in an effort to lose weight (To date, two and a half stone shed ), and of course working! Some of you will remember me buying my 1986 Renault 9 Broadway 1400 a little less than a year ago....An accidental Ebay purchase really....It had very little use from me (partly because I was already enjoying my R11, partly because it wasn't running properly) before I decided to give it to my stepson as his first car. In order for him to have it, I felt I had to get it running properly, so I spent another £300-odd (on top of the £400 purchase price - would have been more but for the donation of a manifold by our own Mouseflakes....Cheers Tim! ) getting it M.O.T'd and running properly, then it basically sat about for five months until my stepson decided that he doesn't want it after all because it has a manual choke! I don't really have a use for it anymore, so I thought I'd offer it on here first....Here are some snaps, taken this afternoon: The pictures flatter it slightly....The paintwork could do with a polish after five months' neglect and pretty much every panel has a ding, dent or undulation, but there is very little rust at all. The only area of rust that could do with attention is under the battery....It looks like it could do with a wire brush over it, then a coat or two of Hammerite. The interior is pretty good, with just a saggy rear headlining, a loose bit of trim on the dash, a broken locking knob, and a couple of dodgy window winders spoiling things, but basically quite nice. It's showing just under 59,000 miles (which seems to be verified by several old M.O.T. certificates that I have), it's M.O.T'd until March 15th next year (and I see no reason why it wouldn't sail through another), and taxed until the end of October....It has four not very old Michelins, and I'm sure it's had a new battery during my ownership too, but I can't find the invoice! The car is by no means a show-winner, but it basically looks good for it's age, drives fine (Much faster than the 1400 R11 that I had for some reason), and is more interesting than many other old Jalopies that you could buy....I'm looking to get somewhere near what I paid for the car initially (£400), but am open to sensible offers and will possibly swap/part exchange for an old Japanese car....In particular a Mazda 323f, but if you have something else, try me! Get in touch only if you're interested....Any posts/PMs from smartarses telling me that it's a piece of shit, and that I should weigh it in (as I read in a similar post on here recently) will be ignored, so you may as well not bother....I know it's an old piece of shit - That's why we're all here innit? Guest
It's a piece of- oh.No seriously, good luck with the sale. Looks like a nice thing, I like the US-spec style headlights!
mouseflakes
Glad the manifold did the job Baz!Sorry I can't help out by buying it from you - not really what I need at the mo' - and imminent failure of the old domestic boiler makes tat buying difficult to justify right now!Car looks incredibly clean though - and that's the nicest 9/11 front end treatment IMO. Spottedlaurel
Sorry to hear you're letting this one go Baz. I thoroughly enjoyed our day collecting it, it was a pleasant surprise as to how good it was given you'd bought it unseen.Edit: If you end up stuck with it and need somewhere to store it I'll happily find a R9-size corner of the driveway where it can live, until you can find a buyer. Mash
That is most certainly NOT a piece of shit. It's a lovely looking car in fab condition and I would love to take it off your hands. But I can't Hope it finds a very appreciative autoshite-loving home where it will be cherished. I glad I sent a speculative PM earlier today thenI'm assuming, Andrew, that this comment was directed at Mr.Reno, regarding his R9 with the magnificent red seats? I've certainly not received a PM from you!

Mr Lobster
I'd be interested in it, but something there is the possibility I can acquire something Renault shaped* I would really really like so I'm kinda holding out for that at the moment...*Not saying what at the moment, don't want to tempt fate... CortinaDave
I wouldnt class that as a piece of shit! looks damn tidy to me.Incidentally weighing in isnt seeming so attractive anymore .. prices are falling by the day.Local yard that was paying £210 in July are down to £130 driven in. Still good but every time i hear their advert on the radio the price has dropped. was £150 at the weekend.I did tell someone just to weigh in a motor on here recently.. but in view of what was on offer i think it was justified...http://autoshite.commlm/forum/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=

Mike D
323F BA's are ace. Go for the ZXi V6, i loved my old one. Fantastic car.
Spottedlaurel
I feel the same about the previous model 323F GT that I ended up with after Mrs SL moved onto the Carina E, what a zesty car. Wish I'd been able to keep it, or had bought it back when I saw it for sale again. I imagine it's dead now Even the £50 spares car was a goodun - I sold the pair for £
Baz
I'm sure the BA V6 is a splendid piece of kit, but I want summat a little more modest on the running costs....A BG like S.L's, particularly in GT form, and white if possible, would be great! Was the engine in that the same unit as the MX-5 used?
Mike D
I never had cause for concern with the V6's running costs, it was quite a thrifty unit to be honest
Spottedlaurel
I always believed it be, yes. It was a 1.8 giving nigh-on 140bhp, so the unit used in Mk2 MX5? Obviously transverse in 323F rather than longitudinal as in MX5. Had butterflies in the inlet manifold to give variable length tracts, to give more torque at low rev's. MrRegieRitmo
I don't much like the look of the 323 BA, it's a bit odd looking especially at the front. There are 4 cars which have a similar look to me, all compact, squat coupe like and only one of them I think looks ok; this 323 BA, the Nissan 100NX, the Mazda MX-3, and that oddball Mazda 323 3 door hatch that sold a handful in the mid nineties. Out of that lot I reckon the MX-3 looks the most interesting & probably goes / sounds better too!
Baz
I've decided to have a go at an Ebay listing for the car, as no takers on here....Just setting up the account/Patpal etc....Is it still forbidden to say that you'll accept part-ex's and swaps? mk2_craig
I don't think it's kompletely verboten, just you have to say "I'm looking for a such-and-such, if you have one and would like my car then list yours as a buy-it-now and we'll do a deal" or something along those lines. Spottedlaurel
So, it made £256 reserve not met. What's happening now Baz?
Baz
What's happening now Baz?I expect it'll get re-listed at the weekend, along with a couple of motorbikes, a recumbent, and maybe some Volvo S40 alloys! I may consider part exchanging it with a trader, for an old Mazda 323f, 626, or MX-3 1600 (4cyl) of some description, to use through the winter....I'm not sure if I can live without the MX-5 on a daily basis though! Baz
Relisted the car last night....It was on for all of ten minutes before a trader hit "Buy it Now", paid me via Paypal, and he's already collected it and taken it Oop North! I have a feeling it'll be re-appearing on the 'bay soon! Well thats got the 323 fund started anyway....Just a few more items to move before I can start looking around!
