Hi guys,

New here and currently living in Surrey. Don't tend to buy tat but seems to happen.
Currently looking to sell a gen 2 Hyundai coupe, blue, bit rough around the edges and needs some work but has had a lot of money poured into it... rather someone had it otherwise it's the great metal muncher in the sky for it.

will post in appropriate thread for it but here's a heads up.

Been lurking for years, this is one of my favourite places on the web. I think the reason I've avoided getting involved has been an attempt to curb my addiction to buying cheap bangers. Oh and wasting time on the internet. And maybe the fact that the banter here is of such a high level that I worry I may be out of my league...

A few months ago after a lifetime's obsession with old vehicles I "went off cars" and started walking as much as possible. I sold my rusty late 90s Merc C Class to a friend, and my only slightly less rusty late 90s Ford Ka is sorned and probably needs a starter motor (anyone want it?) it's currently sitting on my mother in law's drive wishing someone would take it out for a good thrashing... great little car, but not quite practical enough for me to justify spending out on it at the moment.

My rusty late 90s Vespa is in the back garden. It's been off the road for two years because I have failed spectacularly to fix a faulty indicator. I made a particularly spectacularly bad attempt at fixing it in the rain this weekend. I was full of confidence and enthusiasm when I started, but I have decided that I hate it now. There is bad juju between it and me and that seems a particularly bad thing with it only having two wheels. It's true that I'm a long way from being a master mechanic, but I'm not normally quite that bad at fixing things. I'm not sure I like Vespas after all now, maybe it was part of my midlife crisis, but I've always been much happier with the unloved and unfashionable. Could it be time for an Innova?

My wife has a car, a not very rusty late 90s Beetle, but I don't like it very much, and I only drive it if I have to. It's OK, but just a bit... modern?

Anyway, all this walking has made my feet hurt, so I'm looking lustfully at pictures of a rusty Vauxhall Astra estate for sale on here. In 23 years of cut-price motoring, I've never owned a Vauxhall... Feeling itchy...

HELLO!

Good morning all..been lurking on here for a few months now so figured it was time to join. My everyday steed is a 1989 Volvo 740 saloon but there's more old crocks in the shed of shame out the back. Thanks to all here for keeping me entertained since I discovered the site last autumn during one of those "had enough of old cars" phases

Thanks for the welcome and the encouragement (not that I need it).

I probably will try to sell the scooter soon, but it owes me about a million quid for an engine rebuild (don't ask) so I'd rather keep it as a garden ornament than sell it really cheap.

The Ka on the other hand is available to buy really cheap (maybe even less than that). Will post an ad at some point. Or maybe roffle it. The scrappers offered me more than I could sell it for but that would be a shame...

Thanks for the welcome. Pictures to follow when I figure out how to attach them (not very technical) but the shame shed contains a Riva estate in forum colour, Volvo 164, Gazelle, Westminster, Peugeot 404 and a talky Maestro vdp. And a 3-litre P5

Thank you for the add. I have been lurking around here having only discovered this place fairly recently, loving the stories..

My car history is basically a Xantia, followed by something else, a Xantia, something else, bought back the same Xantia again, something else and then another Xantia (this time an Exclusive, ooh er!) Current fleet is 2 Xantias, 2 Xsara Bigarsos and a 1983 T25 camper. Don't worry it's as it left the factory, well with added rust.

I can't seem to escape the lure of the LHM. I'm hoping to try something different from this site in due course. The other cars have no particular pattern including an AX as my first car followed by a Rover 218 SLD turbo of 1993 vintage, a newer C5, an even newer C8 and a Seat Alhambra.

I might well start a thread for my current Xantia, the car that didn't get to retire. Still in daily use of around 100 miles a day and approaching 220,000 miles now.

Sorry, mustn't waffle

Andy

Seeing as I've said hello, I suppose this is as good a place as any to ask a stupid question...

Where can I find the rules for roffling?

Keep being tempted by stuff... but just want to be sure about what I'm getting myself into...

Rules for roffle

1) ask for a ticket
2) ask for a second ticket because asking for one is just rude
3) payment details will be messaged to you
4) pay via payment details never ever ever mentioning a roffle. Note with payment should be as rude/funny/obscure as you want it
5) include username
6) bonus ball on first lottery after all payments recieved decides winner/loser
7) con- miserations/gratulations
8)goto 1

Having been a long-time lurker, thought it's about time I said hi, love this forum. Plenty of bangernomic-shite motoring history to share including London to Oslo in a Mk1 Reliant Robin pick-up (think that heap's now at the bottom of a lake), a £290 Saab 900 that did sterling service, a £260 leaky Honda Prelude, very rough £90 Rover 75 last year to get me from Leamington to Edinburgh via London cheaper than train, a Rover 214 that refused to die despite my best attempts and several Peugeots (all ropey/borderline dangerous). Worst ever pile of junk was a Ford Orion. Have a nice daily driver and a keeper-classic that I'm sure don't count as shite but always like to have something not-so-nice on the side despite my long-suffering OH's protestations. Just finished bringing back to life an old Pontiac (Mk2 Cavalier engine) and am fairly knowledgable on rusty old XJ-S's in case anyone needs advice on them.

Welcome along - £90 Rover 75 is today's winnah. A lot of love for these old buses on here (well any old Rover chod really).

Must point out newbie error - no such thing as a Ford Orion on Autoshite. It's either Escort-with-a-boot or, more commonly, just plain Onion.

Love to hear more about your Robin adventures - again a lot of love for Reliants on here.

Americana goes a long way too - you'll fit in lovely here.

Urn in the corner, don't nick all the custard creams.

OK, I've lurked for long enough, I like rubbish cars, and I seem to be gaining more of them. Them's the criteria, no?

Anyway, the latest automotive albatross is this:

nT8JTvo.jpg

I never wanted a Range Rover, honest, but it was too cheap to say no to. Currently trying to fix all the bits which are a) rusty  B) broken  c) just don't work for some reason. I may be some time, so I'll give it its own thread.
