Chris_W_Q4
American based Renault fans were spoiled for choice in the 80's. Check out these fantastic offerings. First, the weird mutation of the Renault 25 which is : the Eagle Premier. Conversion to saloon body is quite good but the highlight has to be the all American dash. 2.5 Litre, 111hp or 3.0 V6 with 150. Strangled! How about a Renault Encore? Or an Alliance? Loving the YouTube comment from some gormless sod : "WHO HAS PARTS FOR AN ENGINE REBUILD." I guess they must be as popular over there as the "not a Rover" Sterling... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xMzez4B ... re=related

vicsmith
Eagle Premier looks brilliant. They did a pretty good job of americanising it, to be fair, it wouldnt look out of place in a car park full of Luminas and Tempos. Couldn`t help thinking it looked a lot like the reintroduced early `90s Dodge Monaco, and having looked into it, that is no surprise, as that is exactly what the Premier became in 1990:
r.welfare
Yup. When Chrysler bought AMC there was a contract with Renault for the purchase of a set number of engines and parts for the Premier. When it failed to sell, it was "badge engineered" into the Monaco, which failed to sell as well. IIRC Chrysler had to pay Renault a pretty penny to bale out of the contract.Still, all was not lost, as a lot of Premier (and therefore R25) engineering was used in the "LH" cars - Dodge Intrepid, Chrysler Concorde, Eagle Premier - which were the first good-looking Merkin saloons since I don't know when.
