Bennos Brilliant Bangers FSO and Skoda Pictures (updated 09/02/18)

Hi All,

To be honest with all the FSO activity on here of late I did debate whether to post these at all. They are becoming too common for my liking and I think my time would be better spent looking for Dacia Denems, Seat Malagas and Rondas, lonsdales etc but anyway.

A couple of weeks ago I got a call from an old chap who had a couple of 125ps he was looking to move on. I had already decided that I wanted them come what may but he wanted me to come and have a look. There was talk of a Lada Samara as well as some other old cars.

I travelled down to his house and upon arrival was greeted with this site.

The brown/oramge beauty has been off the road since 91 and the grey stallion since 97. They are both full of stuff which I have agreed to clear out when I collect. The poor old chap selling the cars is 80 and now wheel chair bound, he said he would do his best but might not be much help. He did say his neighbour would be willing to help us but it turned out he was 91.

Have some more photos, Samara revealed hiding under black tarpaulin :)

It wasn't easy to take photos, the old chap had massed quite a collection of stuff in his back garden which had become fairly overgrown with brambles etc.

I've done a deal for the two FSOs but I don't really want the Samara, the old chap is open to offers so if anyone wants to make an offer or would like some more info please drop me a pm. The current plan is to collect the FSOs at the end of June so potentiall we could deliver the Samara to you at the same time assuming we can do a deal on the fuel costs.

The samara is a non runner but comes with a new engine, its only done 7k but there were problems with the fly wheel. it's in a lot better condition than the FSOs.

You really do have some superb finds Ben. Both the FSO's actually look savable for once!

I was just thinking the white 125p looks very very late on a G reg when I remembered that one on Canvey that I photographed is an H reg, so even later. They must have looked so hopelessly old fashioned by 1990-91.

Thanks for the comments guys, yes a g is quite late but the latest I've seen is a j. I think the last imports were 91. The plan is for both of them to return to the road, I couldn't bring myself to break them and spares are still fairly easily available from Poland.

Bolz u haz pm. The cars are in Bedford.

Again, thanks for sharing these, Ben.

I thought Edd was getting all moist at the prospect of a Samara? Or is he just too skint after the Scotch trip?

This one looks ok akshully. Do we know is it a 1.1, 1.3, or a 1.5 like our one?

It's nice and early to avoid anti-pollution MOT woes, and it has the square bonnet and nose-cone. Our one has the longer bonnet. Still pre-cat, which is nice.

Thanks, someone has made an offer on the samara so hopefully that will be going to a new home shortly as well :)

yeah sure HillmanImp, when I lived in Norfolk a nurse that lived near to my parents had a malaga and a mark 1 golf. She still has the golf as far as i know but unfortunately the malaga is long gone.

Could you not buy a lhd Malaga and use an ibiza rhd as a donor? I have no idea if the bits are interchangeable I'm just thinking out loud :)

You probably could use the bits though as they are all Fiat strada-based so the bulkhead and floorpan will be identical. However to do it you’d need to find a Mk1 RHD Ibiza in suitably poor nick that you wouldn’t mind pillaging it, which is quite a task already.

Is the Samara buyer a ‘shiter? Be interesting to see how they get on with it. I do quite fancy one of those I must say.

True, although I have seen one or two pretty grotty mk1 ibizas pop up in the usual places which I think I would have pillaged for a rhd Malaga.

I know the chap through eastern bloc circles, he already has a riva, estelle and yugo and a few Talbots so I think he deffinately qualifies as a shiter. Don't know if he has account on here though. Do you want second dibs if he drops out? We could probably deliver to you for free as the plan is to collect and move the two 125s, the green polonez and samara and various other things all in one big shite moving week. I have sent you another pm.

The 125p's bring back memories. My next-door neighbour used to have an F-reg one, in a sort of mid blue.

Many cold mornings hearing it cranking over and over until finally it would splutter into life, with her driving off down the road, several red lights flashing on the dash. Never knew what was wrong with it, I was still just a nipper. She traded it in against a new 1995 Peugeot 106 diesel hatch which they still have and putz about in occasionally. Proper chod. Even the lacquer is peeling off the paint on the roof now.

and for a change hopefully I will be able to put it straight on the road. 1979 1500 RHD but being imported from Belgium. The plan was to make it into a rally rep hence the bonnet.

Quite excited :D

The car has been standing for a while so had a flat battery, I popped a fresh one on and she fired into life, half a tank of petrol as well :)

Video below if you want to hear her purring like a kitten or maybe the sound of scaffolding collapsing.
