A Solido code 3 Merc 407 van done as a gift to me by a mate who sadly is no longer with us, so it does hold a place in my heart.

Essentially yes. They tried to contact either him or the previous owner but to no avail and the model is actually of the car in the spec the previous owner had it - there had been some changes apparently.

Anyway, owner gets onto Corgi and a load of retailers including us. Demanded that the retailers remove it from sale (Ha! We'd already sold out) and told Corgi that he wanted compensation as they had used 'his' registration without permission and it would make the car more likely to be stolen or some such bobbins.

I believe Corgi told him a polite version of FRO.

Odd though in that his actions seemed to make them more desirable. I think we had about 36 of them and sold them all really quickly at full rrp. There were a good few on eBay making £30 or more. Strange when the other Mk3s they've done have sold ok but not exceptionally well.

I paid £18 BIN for mine the day they came out on ebay yet they make silly money now, Over on BSC all the other members were telling him not to worry about it and to take it as a compliment and that it might make his car worth more now but the guy couldn't see it.

If Corgi had used mine I'd be over the moon!

Hey Trigger, that Red MK4 Cortina is almost identical to the ex-taxi one my uncle owned in the 1980's, bar a beige vinyl roof. Added to my want list!

I just took delivery of this today (e-bay picture from the listing):

Havent had a chance to look at it properly yet. I usually put those horrible plastic display cases up in the loft but the presentation of this model is pretty attractive.

Came all the way from France so took ages to arrive.

@Spottedlaurel

Have I managed to get hold of a built Eidai Grip Kit?

Underneath it states EIDAI CORPORATION

Takes two AA cells and the motor drives a cog on the axle.  It flies!

It was a 99p mis-listing.

I did tell the seller what I thought it was, but they didn't bother to change the listing to suit.  So presumably no-one else knew what is was and didn't bid

While taking the underneath photo, the motor kicked into life!  Small switch in the cut-out at bottom  is a bit loose and span the wheels in photo!  It has life to it, granted.

Certainly sounds like what they did with those old Japanese kits. I have few of those motors from the days when they were included. On the more recent issues the cog and everything is still there but the motor has to be purchased separately.

Just noticed this is a resurrection of the original SiM thread!

I thought the original SiM thread had gone down with all hands during a board move many moons ago... I'm in shock!

Any chance the threads could be merged, or is that just asking for more trouble??

Could we ask mods to merge the two threads?

While a great deal of pics from the original thread seem to have been lost in the Great Photobucket Unpleasantness, there's still some quite interesting stuff in there - might be handy to combine the two for the sake of completeness.

Having finally dredged it from the deep, it'd be a shame to let it sink to the bottom again!
