They were supposed to be 1/50 to fit in with the cars and the trailer more or less is. The cab isn't though. There was an article in one of the model magazines a couple of months back y'see. Spotted a couple of 'H' platers they are still running that still look pretty tidy.On a similar theme, Corgi are releasing some new 1/43 (If memory serves correctly) trucks later this year which going by the preproduction samples are absolutely superb! Wonder what's brought that on considering they've always churned them out in 1/50 competing with the likes of Tekno? The reason I've only ever bought a handful of ones that took my fancy (even though there were plenty more I would have liked) is because at 1/50 they wouldn't compliment my 1/43 cars which is pretty much the backbone of my collection. I could never understand why lorries were churned out in 1/50 when most model cars are produced in 1/43!? Even Corgi's van ranges are done in 1/50 which again is too small to go with my 1/43 cars! Maybe they've realised that to appeal more to European collectors, they should slot in with the 1/43 crowd, especially now that Minichamps are producing more lorries in their 1/43 range (of which I have been happy to purchase some, since they go with the cars!), so maybe they want a piece of that pie & compete directly with them on a level other than 1/43 cars! The trailer looks great with the 1/36 cars loaded on it but even as a kid I was annoyed at the differing scale of the lorry. A pedant at 9 years old, no hope! Actually, I've been digging out Corgi 80s cars recently so I might put together a little photoshoot soon. Very nostalgic. Mash Posted August 21, 2009 Share Posted August 21, 2009 Been raking about in the loft in a fit of nostalgia and gathered up some 1/36 Corgis. Most are re-purchases of ones I had when I was a kid or ones I wanted and didn't get. Still to turn up are an SD1 Police car, Volvo 760 and a couple of others including the AMC Pacer that elude me. There are some I'd still like to get too (Opel Senator, SD1 civvy, Peugeot 505). I reckon Corgi were on top form with everyday cars in the 80s and seemed to have a good tie-in with the manufacturers. Nice crisp castings with excellent detail but a solid feel to withstand skirting board incidents! BLs finest, the Metro and Maestro. Despite the oversized bumpers and narrow track, the Maestro isn't a bad effort really, though the colour is a bit nauseating (red one is much rarer). And of course the lights work FTW!! Spot the difference? Acclaim and Prelude. The Acclaim steers with the mirrors of course; one of my faves as a child. The Sierra is great with it's correct wheel hubs. This is one of the Ford promo versions in more authentic colour. And for comparison the Matchbox XR4i below: More Fords. This is the RS1600i version but the standard issue green or blue are both nice as is the Panda car. The Transit is from a rare AA set that I got one birthday or Christmas. It came with an Ezz van and Range Rover: Got a few Escort vans. I have a Gas board one somewhere that I remember getting from Smiths when I was about 7 because the door is bust and has been from day one! Randoms now. The Lotus was a 20p car boot find. It's apparently not that common as it was a short-lived re-issue around the time of the 1983 reshuffle in the company. The R5 and Jag are Mash originals but the Mazda I got last year for only a fiver mint and boxed: Not Corgi but Dinky, this used to be the only diecast Princess available. Simplistic but an accurate model and colour, it sits a bit awkwardly in the 70s Dinky BL range as the other cars are around 1/42 scale (except the SD1 which is a right cock-up...).
