Shite in miniature

I might take that gold SD1, if it stays below £3.The transcontinental came today, such a large model, what sort of scale is it?

So far so good on the SD1What Transcontinental did you get? The red & white car transporter? I think I've still got that somewhere plus the rehashed 'improved' version for the Corgi classics branding as a BRS box truck. I'm not sure it's 1/43 scale, might be just shy of it, it's a sizeable model though agreed

Blast! Was beaten to the SD1 by a penny!ah wellMy transcontinental is the blue one, but someone has attempted to put detail on it by means of silver paint. Not a problem, im quite tempted to just buy some blue and black and make it original. Its in really good condition actually. with the only paint loss at the normal front corners.I really want more 'shite' lorries, a corgi F88 or Scammel crusader would be nice.Expensive thoughThe cheapest corgi lorry on ebay at the moment is a foden alpha tractor unit for a tenner.Tempting.

Blue one....is that from the Michelin container truck or that blue & white one, Sealine or something?

I have this one, although not in as nice nick

Lone tractor unit. Not sure what it's meant to be with?

I have a Volvo F88 log truck, one of the first Corgi releases of the F88

Michelin container, as of course, silly me, i forgot it had the michelin man on it haha. The only really shite corgi lorries i have are the Atkinson Borderer in Killingbeck livery (truly amazing story behind these) and a Scammell Highwayman tanker.I also have the newest Scania T cab. But thats it

This is the one I've got, think it makes the nicest model of the F88s, although I fancy the Elddis one as I'm sure I remember a depot in Bedfordshire by a main road when we lived round that way, memory could be playing tricks though. Possibly Sandy way, Pogweasel may be able to confirm or deny all knowledge?

Interesting fact (or not...) the tractor unit is actually a different scale to the trailer. They were supposed to be 1/50 to fit in with the cars and the trailer more or less is. The cab isn't though. There was an article in one of the model magazines a couple of months back y'see.

Thats my Borderer, and heres an actual one from the internet:

This is an Atkinson Venturer, Killingbeck modified most of their fleet and alot of them lasted into the late eighties and early nineties. Not bad!

The one corgi modelled (STC 262M) lasted until 1989.

16 years on the road is very long for a lorry

Company localish to me (Fagan and Whalley) still uses some fairly old trucks. Spotted a couple of 'H' platers they are still running that still look pretty tidy.On a similar theme, Corgi are releasing some new 1/43 (If memory serves correctly) trucks later this year which going by the preproduction samples are absolutely superb!

I dont think any lorry companies round here use older fleets. There is a 1978 ERF livestock lorry though, that frequently comes through here.Yeh the corgi lorries just seem to get better, pricy now though! The scania 143 is the one i want, actually on the subject of local companies, have corgi done any for Rawlings Transport yet?

Hallelujah! Wonder what's brought that on considering they've always churned them out in 1/50 competing with the likes of Tekno? The reason I've only ever bought a handful of ones that took my fancy (even though there were plenty more I would have liked) is because at 1/50 they wouldn't compliment my 1/43 cars which is pretty much the backbone of my collection. I could never understand why lorries were churned out in 1/50 when most model cars are produced in 1/43!? Even Corgi's van ranges are done in 1/50 which again is too small to go with my 1/43 cars! Maybe they've realised that to appeal more to European collectors, they should slot in with the 1/43 crowd, especially now that Minichamps are producing more lorries in their 1/43 range (of which I have been happy to purchase some, since they go with the cars!), so maybe they want a piece of that pie & compete directly with them on a level other than 1/43 cars! :D Really really need more 1970s & 80s lorries, British (which is Corgi's forte) especially!

I've also got that one still in decent fettle. The trailer looks great with the 1/36 cars loaded on it but even as a kid I was annoyed at the differing scale of the lorry. A pedant at 9 years old, no hope!

Actually, I've been digging out Corgi 80s cars recently so I might put together a little photoshoot soon. Very nostalgic. Can't for the life of me find my Volvo 740 though :?

I've got this Matchbox Bedford TM somewhere which was a very cheap mint/boxed purchase a few years ago. Nice model really and looks good with Cortinas and so on loaded 8) Mine is the lorry on it's own however not the gift set.

Schuco do a really nice 1/43 scale car transporter. Quality is really good, I've ordered a few (mainly as I wanted one myself) but they are really hard to get hold of. One day, hopefully.

Tell me more!I like how they tried to replicate the brake / lights hoses on the Bedford TM model, except the leads don't go anywhere, just out of the back of the cab & into the base of the chassis! My favourite was the Kelloggs bulk grain carrier with Snap, Crackle & Pop depicted on the side - sure I've still got it somewhere...

Been raking about in the loft in a fit of nostalgia and gathered up some 1/36 Corgis. Most are re-purchases of ones I had when I was a kid or ones I wanted and didn't get. Still to turn up are an SD1 Police car, Volvo 760 and a couple of others including the AMC Pacer that elude me.

There are some I'd still like to get too (Opel Senator, SD1 civvy, Peugeot 505). I reckon Corgi were on top form with everyday cars in the 80s and seemed to have a good tie-in with the manufacturers. Nice crisp castings with excellent detail but a solid feel to withstand skirting board incidents!

BLs finest, the Metro and Maestro. Despite the oversized bumpers and narrow track, the Maestro isn't a bad effort really, though the colour is a bit nauseating (red one is much rarer). And of course the lights work FTW!!

Spot the difference? Acclaim and Prelude. The Acclaim steers with the mirrors of course; one of my faves as a child.

The Sierra is great with it's correct wheel hubs. This is one of the Ford promo versions in more authentic colour. And for comparison the Matchbox XR4i below:

More Fords. This is the RS1600i version but the standard issue green or blue are both nice as is the Panda car. The Transit is from a rare AA set that I got one birthday or Christmas. It came with an Ezz van and Range Rover:

Got a few Escort vans. I have a Gas board one somewhere that I remember getting from Smiths when I was about 7 because the door is bust and has been from day one!

Randoms now. The Lotus was a 20p car boot find. It's apparently not that common as it was a short-lived re-issue around the time of the 1983 reshuffle in the company. The R5 and Jag are Mash originals but the Mazda I got last year for only a fiver mint and boxed:

Not Corgi but Dinky, this used to be the only diecast Princess available. Simplistic but an accurate model and colour, it sits a bit awkwardly in the 70s Dinky BL range as the other cars are around 1/42 scale (except the SD1 which is a right cock-up...). I've also got a white one somewhere.

And here's that transporter off back to the BL dealer full of warranty claims
