Mr Lobster, have you ever had (and if not do you think you could let me know if you ever do!) the Citroen C35 van from the Michelin* range? I do need that one too!

* or in the red/blue/white French national police livery

I want this as well, but I'm not paying that!

Yes, that seller seems to have a succession of silly listings for these cars;

I keep seeing them & wondering who the hell is gonna buy them, especially when there are plenty of cheaper ones on there! My XR3 finished on £17 which I'm perfectly happy with for a model I bought for £12.99, although that seller's stupid prices will give other sellers unrealistic expectations. I bought that MkIII 'LoM' Cortina for about a tenner from a Dutch eBayer!

Dunderhead

There is only one fault on this as far as I can see, and that is several small cracks in the lower part of the back window that were caused when I polished the windows.

Well, I've got every Capri Minichamps have done so far, well every MkIII anyway. I've got 3 of the MkIIs & an RS MkI, but so far none of the Vanguards ones. I'm holding out for them to do a 280 special edition in Brooklands green which surely has to come sooner or later! I thought about the light blue metallic 2.8i Special they did but opted for the Minichamps version instead which is pretty much the same model of the same car.As for the Vanguards MkIII Escort, that XR3 & the race / police versions are the only ones they've done so far, so if you want a normal one or a variation of one of the sporty ones, sit tight because they will be coming over the next few months I would say in all sorts of colours & specs.Minichamps still have some way to go with their MkIII having so far released only 1 normal GL spec in red, 1 XR3 in white & 1 cabriolet in blue so plenty more scope for that one too!

i think ill hold out for a 280 myself too!they best model the wheels right. And yeh i hope vanguards can modify their escort casting to give a wider range, a 3 door 1.3 gl in hearing aid beige would be brilliant hahaLooking forward to the Nova, as i do not have the funds for schucho version.

Cheap (at the moment)

I didn't bother with this one due to having so many of the Minichamps ones. But if one came along in the right colour I think I should include an example of it in my collection!

Not too bad a price. Ironically the same seller with the wild pricing on some of the others!

Not a lot of lolly

Not too bad...for a Schuco

If all else fails there's always the IXO ones which aren't too shabby!

On some of the Vanguards stuff above; the shop selling the Capris, Cortinas and the like for silly money - demand was very strong on these when released and we sold all ours at normal RRP and sold out very quickly. Somebody will still buy them for that price though eventually  The BSM Astra is strange though, they have been heavily discounted by Corgi / Vanguards and are still very much available below RRP so trying to sell it for £50 seems plain odd.Franklin Mint - Very expensive but very good quality if you like 1/24 scale stuff. If you do collect that it's worth noting that Franklin Mint have reduced prices considerably to trade customers to clear stocks so there might be one or two bargains about. We have an El Camino pick up at the moment which is a pretty nice thing. Still not 'cheap' at the discounted price mind...Vanguards Mk III Escorts - from memory there is another BTCC variant and another Police model due later this year, no standard road cars as far as I can remember.

I think that model is at the high price purely based on it's low certificate number. So at the end of the day what you're paying for is a little bit of card, since the models aren't stamped with their certificate number you could put any of those BSM Astras with that certificate & it'll suddenly be worth a lot more money. Apparently.I know that no normal versions of the Vanguards MkIII Escort have been announced yet but you can put money on it that there will be at some point!

I'm not being cynical, but...Can someone please explain to me the pleasure in buying newish diecasts which are deliberately made in small runs so they instantly become collectible? They're pretty much all knocked-out in a factory in China, they just get different colour paint or decals. It's not like they're handcrafted by craftsman with a deep love for their subject.I like to see the older ones that have survived against the odds and I buy a few of those myself, but newly-made stuff leaves me cold.

I'm after the metallic green one! I have the blue & the yellow one. The one based on the LoM car is linked above somewhere by Brammy with the comment 'WTF' at the price!

Is that the Daytona yellow Consul? (can't see any pictures at work) Pretty sure I've got that, it's hard to keep track!

For me personally I couldn't give a monkeys about the collectability of the stuff, to me that just proves to be an added complication in getting hold of the things! I just want good likenesses of the cars I like, with lots of detail, reasonably cheaply. That means buying from the ranges of current manufacturers

Well, a lot of buyers are either people collecting models of cars they like / have owned / certain marques / ages of car or collect certain genres of model, ie ambulances, trucks or those that they have some connection with. I for example always have an eye out for 1980's cars as this is what interests me most. But if I buy for my own collection I buy it because I like it, not because it is limited edition and might become collectable in future, how many are produced is irrelevant to me as a private collector.

Not all are made in smallish numbers to ensure they become instantly collectable, Minichamps are probably most guilty of this though and to be honest with a few exceptions it doesn't guarantee 'collectability'. There are always going to be some models for which there is more demand than other - RS Fords would be a good example - but this doesn't mean they will become greatly valuable in the future.

I spoke to a guy who had spent a lot of time and money collecting EFE buses thinking it was a good investment. It wasn't. - Ten years on they only change hands for around the original RRP. In the same respect as buying real cars, models can be a reasonable investment but won't make you rich overnight.

Almost everything is produced in China, such is the way of the world I suppose. To be fair a lot of the 'old' stuff was mass produced, only in England / France / Germany or wherever, thats not to knock it at all though but I guess that 'progress'.

Ultimately it's each to their own, the newer models have an incredible level of detail in most cases. There does seem to be two distinct markets in model collecting - those who prefer the older models and those who prefer the newer ones.

I suppose it’s just that I’m one of the former then! I fully realise that the old Superfast etc I like were mass-produced, but the thought of factories in England turning them out now seems rather quaint. I come to my limited collecting through the childhood nostalgia thing, rather than wanting to get everything on a particular type of car.For that reason while I do look at the nice collection of Ebbro Japanese cars at my local shop, they haven’t yet made me get my wallet out to buy one.I am a bit partial to 1:24 kits, but that’s because I enjoy the process of building one up to my own dream specification, agonising over colour, wheels ride height etc. The rarity of a particular kit’s issue is of little consequence, though I do prefer it when I find an older release simply due to the box art being nicer on them, in my opinion.

So with 'rare' kits is there any sort of protocol regarding whether they should be ideally left as new, unbuilt for all time, or is building them (to the suggested standard) an acceptable thing to do? Would it seem wrong to receive a rare sought after kit & er...'shock' 'horror' actually build it?
