After a tip-off from Vicsmith I hit up Youtube to see the video for the woeful 1996 smash (s)hit "Babybird - You're Gorgeous" on the basis that it had some weird old Mitsubishi in it and its fate didn't bode well. Let's have a look.

AMENDED.

This is an Autoshite call to arms - I want you to stop at nothing in the campaign to exterminate these subhuman Sheffield scrotes. Wanted - DEAD.

Rest of tragedy on video (mute your computer before playback): http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=b14h8o2v1JQ

That figures as this dire song was released in October 1996. In his 1996 music video for 'Radio on', Ricky Ross (formerly of Scot Band Deacon Blue) is seen watching a Renault 25 being winched out from a harbour  What Video is it from the 80's that has 4 lads driving about in a PA Cresta going a bit mad????

If I've got any ammo left I'll get the feckin' Arctic Monkeys for what they did to that Marina too.........

They didn't restore it did they? Bunch of bastards, anyone who saves a Marina deserves a right good kicking

Hey, that Mitsubishi would have been 13 years old at the time - like smashing up an N-reg galant now. Not that I'm saying it would be OK to smash a N-reg galant because it clearly wouldnt be. But not as serious as smashing an A-reg tredia in 2008.

The Tredia had serious shite potential from new though, it would have been an absolute obscurity by 1996. I'd say it was more like smashing up one of those Sigma V6 saloons today, which would still not be acceptable. Even if it had a knackered autobox. Therefore, a beating is still in order.

But alot more serious than smashing up a 1983 Metro or Escort, even then!

Why is it so cool to smash up & destroy an old car? (especially in a music video?......or film.....or programme)

Travis released a few singles some 10 years ago that featured a Vauxhall Viva E and an Opel Manta A. Fortunately I don't think they smashed them up, but I think they blew up a mk3 Escort in one of them. No idea what it adds to the video.
