Cavcraft
I've only just got this but honestly don't really want to part with it. However four other vehicles with tax and test means this loses out in the 'can't bear to sell' stakes.Nineteen niinety something (probably 1995) Astra Mk3 TURBO DIESEL. 5 door, manual with powah steering, central locking, CD player*, eelectrickery front windows and analaogue rears and sunroof. Most fantastically of all though it has working rear parking sensors. They made me laugh when I first realised what they were, it's a bit like a two thousand quid alarm on a Maestro. But I digress. Which I'm bloody good at. Has tax until end of August 2008 and MOT until September 2008. Bosch pump which means veg oil friendly. It's the GM lowblow engine I think. Ace on fuel (done 40-ish miles so far and the gauge hasn't budged) and has a nice turn of speed too. Gave it some welt to make sure everything is in order and it'll do 30mph in first and 50mph in second plus still pull VERY well through all the gears.Bodywork surprisingly good and paintwork very nice too. Rear arches are excellent (usual grot spots) and aside from a few marks paint very tidy for age.149,000 on the lock but don't dis that until you've driven it and trust me it's worth a drive.Known faults:*CD player bit works fine but aerial connection is different on the radio to that on the car so radio untested.Relatively short MOT: from a few good drives of it I reckon possibly suspension bushes (some thunking over bumps) and possibly a tyre but could sort yre out. One wheeltrim missing (pound shop specials anyway) and the front panel is black where it should be red. the VIN plate is red so it tells me someone has changed the front panel at some point. Obviously this might have been down to an accident but the car drives very well and steers and brakes in a straight line.Any inpsection wlcomed and if you live miles away please feel free to ask whoever you like to come and inspect it/drive it and report back to you in private with their findings.I'm currently waiting for the V5 to come back and wouldn't expect anyone to buy the car without it so will hold it for a small deposit. Oh I DO own the car, it's mine to sell and in my possession.Pictures to follow, car is near Chester, Cheshire. VERY close to M53/M56/A55 and easy reach of M6 North (Warrington) and South (Stoke).£400 ono.

Milford Cubicle
Sort of on-topic but when were the Isuzu engines dropped for the GM ones (which aren't as good apparently)? Is the identifying feature of the Isuzu diesels the snazzy '80s fonted sticker on the valve cover? Cavcraft
I should know the difference but can never sodding remember. I think the ones with the black (engine) top and silver writing were Isuzu and the later ones (about 1997 onwards) had the low-blow engines. In my humble opinion the low blow was never as good as the Isuzu but local taxi firm (who's had scores of them) swears they are just as good. Cavcraft
*Note the car is fairly wet in the picture but shines very well anyhow. Also interior is extremely clean.
Milford Cubicle
Is this an Isuzu lump? 1.7 n/a in a 1997 Corsa, and that font is the funky retro one I referred to earlier
Cavcraft
Yes. In actual fact it looks like I've been hoisted by my own petard here as looking at pictures on teh internetz I think mine has the lowblow engine. This is my engine...
Milford Cubicle
Confusing! I thought the 'low-blow' wasn't installed until much later This is a low-blow in a 1999 Astra Looks good for the money anyway.
Cavcraft
Cheers, and I confess I thought the low blow didn't come along until about 1997. Oh well, it does pull like a bloody train* and does have a Bosch pump. I'm actually going to try some veg oil in it soon. *But not as well as a classic j-tin motorbike
Albert Ross
Low Blow X17DTL from approx 1995. 17TD (Isuzu) from approx 1991! (from very start of Astra F Production)Also available was the 17D.............no blower at all!Vauxhall engine has turbo at rear/pump at front. Isuzu has turbo at front/pump at rear.I know how good these cars are. Regret the sale of my old Estate, but Greenvanman loves it apparently! (This one has the Isuzu in it, mildly breathed on)
Cavcraft
And just to confuse the issue fruther there used to be a GM (Vauxhall) 1.7 n/a diesel engine fitted to some Astras and Astramx vans. It was painfully slow but probably the most reliable engine ever, would run on just about anything you put in the tank and was ace on fuel!*Cheers Albert for the info. Volksy
Am I right in thinking that the Izuzu motors had the Glow plugs at the back of the engine, where they were an absolute arse to get to?
Albert Ross
The Isuzu glow plugs are at the back, but an absolute doddle to get to. The Vauzhall ones however, are a twat to do, especially Number 1, as it sits behind the pump..................
Cavcraft
Oh, actually I would be interested in a deal for a useable 4x4 with MOT. Battle scars etc no problem but needs to be reliable and mechanically good and needs MOT so I can get to off-road events. Ideally 2.0 petrol or up to 2.5 diesel but don't care if 3 or 5 door. Same price or possibly a little bit more expensive (up to about £150 at most) if anyone has anything suitable.

Cavcraft
Ignoring the GR8 big t1t that is thicky0604, I haz taken Astra for MOT yesterday. Failed on one tyre (wrong size, I knew about igt and forgot to change it!) and emissions were slightly high.Tyre being sorted next couple of days and emissions should be down after I have had it serviced. MOT man says change oil and oil filter plus fuel filter and lob some of that diesel injection cleaner/whatever it's called in the tank before giving it an Italian tune-up. I've put some vege oil in as apparantly that helps too.Meanwhile have some more wise words from Messrs Kriss and Kross whilst you work out how much you want to offer me for the Astra of love...I'll make ya Bump Bump wiggle and shake your rumpCause I'll be kicking the flavor that makes you wanna JumpHow high? Real highCause I'm just so flyA young loveable, huggable type of guyAnd everything is the back with a little slackcause inside-out is wiggida wiggida wiggida wack
j-j
Ha! I forgot about K-K, their vid for jump was the first time I saw a lowrider jumping (funnily enough) Apparently Michael Jackson 'liked' them back then too...
r.welfare
Are they the chaps who used to wear their jeans back-to-front? Most bizarre.
Cavcraft
Think they did and seem to recall their lyrics implied they were a big time act who'd be around for a while. The word 'FAIL!' springs to mind here. Somewhere on the web there's a cracking Blog thing where somebody has ripped into Kriss Kross's lyrics and it's pant wettingly funny too. Try and dig it out later.
