The more I see Mk 5 Cortinas, the more I want one

I'm not going to criticise you for that! They're an exceptionally clean-looking car to my eyes, a very successful update of the Mk4. I'd always go for GL or Ghia spec though.

For any of us who grew up in that era they define the family car of the time. Though having said that, my dad was going to get a 2.0GL S but instead went for a Guilietta.

I'd love a Mk5 'Tina myself. Not sure whether the 2.3 V6 is really any better for day-to-day use than a sorted 2-litre Pinto though, although the bent-six made a lovely noise in my Granada.Great photos, SL. That 'yard' does make you wonder about it's use, I thought that EU regs meant that everything has to be clean and easily-accessed.I wouldn't worry too much about your son's identification. I had a massive lurve of Beetles as a nipper, and was scared of Mk4 Zephyrs. It's the other way round these days, to be honest - original Beetle, Mini and 2CV are cars that I will probably never want to own :)

I know the Lambo Murcielago isn't Autoshite but surely it was worth a snap as a vehicle of note that you don't see everyday?

So, this was an Auction right, not a car show, so what brings all the old & interesting vehicles?

:? (not that I'm complaining!)

As is often the case with Nissans / Datsuns there was more than one style of rear light on these Sunnys & this is my preferred version! The other isn't too different but more fussy looking with smaller reverse lights. Completely pointless as far as I can tell!

Haul from a local charity shop. Possibly of interest to Pog and Keef? Singer Vogue one is the pre-Arrow car, 1100 one seems to cover all variants.

Sorry: well behind with viewing this forum :-(Shall I send you a pre-paid jiffy and/or something?

Sorry Keef, well behind with answering your query! I have the manual close to hand, will weigh it and see what postage will be.

A few seen over the last couple of months:

Posted Image

Think Wuvvum also familiar with this Gilbern, I'd prefer it to a Scimitar GTE.

Posted Image

En-route to the Bubblecar weekend, nice (though accidental) by Mrs SL in getting this scene-ridden cliche of a split-window camper. Low and common indeed. Even fully-laden, a dose of Camry-powah soon put him behind us.

Posted Image

Purposeful. Quite an old one too.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Pog will like this, and the lifestyle that goes with it. Seen at the local auctions which draws in rural types from all over to pick over everything from pukka antiques to house clearance stuff, a few old vans and trailers, tools, materials and architectural salvage. I picked up a load of timber which I've made a load of shelves for magazines etc out in the big shed.

Posted Image

Not for Pog. Another shot by Mrs SL, seen on the ring road in Norwich. Don't know if it was being trailered to meet its fate or get saved.

Posted Image

Mini graveyard suddenly appeared at an otherwise smart house just near work. A few weeks ago there was a Chevette here, sadly missed that.

Posted Image

Had a choice of two maroon '80s Fords in this Essex car park, it was this or a tidy E-reg Escort but I thought this was now more scarce with 13" (?) wheels and orange indicators now not often seen on surviving Sierras, especially estates.

Posted Image

Somone's pension sitting there! Seen in Essex, but a reg'n that suggests it started life up my way in Norfolk. Obviously fed up with people knocking on the door about it...

Posted Image

High-spec Sunny, probably a tidy ex-Sid n' Doris example but now looks like it's being (ab)used as a van.

Posted Image

Ideal for the weather, nice period wheels on it.

Posted Image

Borderline, but in a few years when they've all gone I'd regret not having taken a photo. Was tidy.

Posted Image

Not borderline at all! Just round the corner from the Skyline below, chap said it'd been there for years and he has another on the road.

Posted Image

The SA-spec Skyline hatch that was on eBay, couldn't resist a bit of window-shopping. Guy also owns...

Posted Image

This R33 non-turbo Skyline 4dr.

Posted Image

And he's in the process of sorting this 240K GT just like my old one.

Posted Image

Yay! Wuvvum and I saw this back in the winter, and I'd seen it nipping around the ring road earlier when I finally caught up with it. Owner been in touch, it's her first car and she's had it four years now.

Posted Image

Posted Image

On the way back from seeing the Skyline on a balmy summer evening, saw this group of X1/9s making the most of it.

That's it, certainly not so much about nowadays.

That 'Not for sale' Scrote's been off the road since '02.He'd want to start doing something with it before it dissolves.Like spraying it yellow or orange and sticking a quad spotlight setup on the front. Cha-ching! Retire to the Bahamas on the proceeds.

Note to self: Do not clean mouse while writing out posts. Started this once already, must have accidentally pressed something

Anyway, bit of a mixed bag. Killed the Nikon recently but don't seem to be missing much nowadays by not having a compact on me at all times.

Posted Image

Not very elegant ex-library van horsebox.

Posted Image

Very pretty IMO. My dad must have sold a few of these back in the day.

Posted Image

This GT6 wouldn't usually have warranted stopping, but for the odd 3-spoke wheel choice.

Posted Image

Floor probably rotten on this like most Hondas/200-series from this era.

Posted Image

Don't see many bodied like this.

Posted Image

Be like Ratdat. Sign said they wanted £1500 for it, but tax etc now out. Got the number if anyone's interested.

Posted Image

A sight that will be seen on my driveway one day. Owner knows I'm still interested...

Posted Image

Though a shame it's now picked up a biff.

Posted Image

Posted Image

What a great looking lorry. Cab shape of these Dodges so familiar from the Matchbox crane and cattle trucks.

Posted Image

This nice too, S-plate quite early?

Posted Image

This with them round the back of a farm shop, kept me and my son amused while shopping was happening.

Posted Image

Rare to see a stock 3dr nowadays, or indeed any Nova. A local garage has a K-plate 5dr up for £1075 right now!

Posted Image

I like these Accord coupes. US-built I'd imagine.

Posted Image

Flatnose Essex pub shite! Really, that's where I saw it, difficult to imagine a more appropriate location.

Posted Image

Probably something to do with the local boatyards.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Nice Vanette import, what you should be looking out for RetroMat? This one not very far from Colchester either.

And that's it.

This amuses me greatly because the commercial vehicle bodybuilder I worked for until fairly recently started to build libraries when one of the original makers went bust. The mould for this front was among the assets and they're still using it! It must be almost 40 years old by now!!

You sure that Vanette is an import? I've seen a couple more the same as this in the past, although i don't remember them having curtains like that one. Rare to see any Vanette of that age now. That Terrano R3M is pretty much exactly the same model as mine so will have a 2.7 turbo diesel in it. I don't think they've got much chance of seeing £1500 for it now. Be lucky to break a grand I'd think. Will run on veg oil though so that might tempt some people.

I didnt know these came as a tractor unit. Lovely but would still love a TK more :D

The Ergomatic pictured was the final update of that cab (unless you count those fitted to the experimental Gas Turbine-engined jobs).

This Preston-built machine was part of the 'Blueline' range and was replaced by the T45 series in 1980, along with the old Albion models (fitted with 'redline' cabs by this time).

The Scottish ex-BMC 'Redline' range (my FAVOURITE) lived on till 1986 in one form or another.

Regarding the Leyland, I hadn’t twigged it was just a facelift of the old Ergomatic. Always something to learn eh?

I think the Terrano had been priced when it had T&T, both of which have now expired.

Pretty sure the Vanette is an import, could check on the Nissan database? Had this sticker in the back:

Posted Image

I’ve seen another Vanette locally which had a similar level of equipment, IIRC that might have come from this place too.

Big update this time, most of it from an excellent day out last Saturday. Here we go…

Posted Image

Was worried that this had gone from the village where I grew up, but it’s still about! I used to deliver papers to the houses in the background.

Posted Image

Hope passenger was just asleep, not dead…

Posted Image

Posted Image

One for Hirst! Mitsubishi Dangan.

Posted Image

Rat? Donk? VIP? Not really sure what look the owner of this Lincoln was going for.

Posted Image

Early Marina looked fantastic in early Autumn sunshine.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Very nice Corolla coupe, early in the morning! Agreed to buy one of these in 1988, but reason prevailed when I was persuaded it was actually rustier than the Cherry I’d already got.

Posted Image

Sorry, bit blurry – still a bit early.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Hadn’t actually stopped for this, but seemed rude not to take pic’s as I was walking past it to get to this…

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Very nice, though wheels a bit too big/modern? Late rear lights not right for a K-reg?

Posted Image

Building shite in Frinton. Been on the roof of one of these for work years ago, think they’re difficult to maintain stuck where they are.

Posted Image

Don’t see many Vanettes nowadays, especially round headlight ones.

Posted Image

Nice pairing, Rover a 416GTi.

Posted Image

R5 seemed too modern for this garage and house, should have been some lumbering old Humber or something?

Posted Image

2200SC in beautiful Jaywick, where the following ones were all seen. Amazing place, difficult to drive down every road but I think we could have seen loads more.

Posted Image

About as unappealing as MG’s get?

Posted Image

Uncommon. Also odd, as Iwan who was with me initially thought this was a Mustang when we saw just its roof. Strangely, just round the corner we did see a Mustang convertible on 3-spoke wheels.

Posted Image

This CF bigger than some of the houses/holiday cabins around it.

Posted Image

Made a nice comparison with the P6.

Posted Image

Dubious panel fit highlighted by unforgiving sunshine. It was in Essex though, so it’s essential to see something like this.

Posted Image

Something special for Pogweasel to finish my first instalment. More to come, heavy Datsun bias…

What a curious thing, it's a Mitsubishi Minica Dangan, but unbelievably it isn't the turbocharged one which was the rival to the Mira TR-XX and Alto Works. It's an Ri-4 which has a 3 cyl DOHC 15V unit, but no turbo - however it does have 4WD!

So, last weekend when luckily it was great weather Iwan and Patrick came over from Holland and we went down to see Datman.

Posted Image

Nice sight on entering his yard.

Posted Image

Posted Image

For obvious reasons, this late Laurel (C230 model) was of interest to me. It’s a late one badged as Laurel, not 240L, and hubcaps not alloys. Manual too, you’d imagine quite rare, and same colour as my old 240K (which I saw later in the day). Quick trundle up the lane showed it to be a lovely drive, and as a bonus I saw this…

Posted Image

900 saloon in his neighbour’s farmyard.

Posted Image

Will’s yard a bit congested, not helped by the static caravan now in there. This 260Z 2+2 being broken.

Posted Image

As was this 100A.

Posted Image

Posted Image

This facelift Sunny B310 had just come in, a few bits of grot but basically clean. Haven’t seen one of those conversion stickers for a bit. He only advertised this Friday night, people came when we were there on Saturday and bought it.

Posted Image

Late 280ZX also due to be broken.

Posted Image

More Vanettes!

Posted Image

One of two 720 pickups there.

Posted Image

This Sunny coupe donated its sought-after 1.5 engine and 5-speed to a 120Y I believe. Those ‘boxes are worth £££’s to Spridget and kit car people, why didn’t I buy a complete similar car for £100 off an exporter a few years back?...

Edit: 100A pic deleted.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I used to own this 240L! Exchanged this and an earlier C130 200L for a 300C off Will. The 240L came off the widow of the original owner for £100, had sat in a car-port in Ipswich for some years and I was told about it by the local Toyota dealer. Will got it on the road for some time, but it’s now sat there awaiting being sorted (not broken, fortunately).

Posted Image

Posted Image

620 pickup! Of particular interest to me as a) it was originally from Norwich, same garage as my Bluebird and B) I sometimes used to get taken to school in one back in the day.

Posted Image

This 200L the same as the one Will had from me (that one now in Scotland), even the same colour. It started after not being touched for six months!

Posted Image

Patrols do rust. Will has the answer to this, as he’s creating a hybrid Range Rover/Patrol.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Datman is also, to a limited extent, Pugman! Both these estates are turbodiesel, 505 a recent acquisition.

Posted Image

Posted Image

Big brown wagon is a Plymouth, very rusty so going to be broken (Will also has a Fury convertible). Was impressively monstrous, however.

Stuff in the barn. Roof fell in on this some years ago, squished a lovely 180B he had then. Was repaired with new roof skin and other panels, though now lost track of and feared dead.

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/PA123848.jpg

Fairly tidy late Violet belonged to people who’d come to view the beige Sunny. Chap also owns a 510 Bluebird.

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/PA123850.jpg

R-R/OJC regular Johnnysomersett also visited in his substantially lowered, Stag wheel equipped 100A (F10).

http://i185.photobucket.com/albums/x58/Spottedlaurel/Spotteds%20Spottings/PA123855.jpg

Another CF camper, seen on the M25. Also spotted a Pony pickup and one or two other things, on Iwan’s camera so those to come.

Ending a splendid day out, we visited Stuyizz on the way home. Got to see his Sapporos as well as my old 240K, a Celica and an Avenger also in his wonderfully located farmyard workshop. And I picked up a bag of old mag’s and brochures which came from Seth (thanks Seth!).

Brilliant update! I should pop down and see if Datman has got any T11 bits, for some reason I can't seem to sign up on his forum.
