Toyshite (Slightly Off Topic)

As the weather's been so dire here today, I finally got around to clearing a few boxes out which have been following me from house to house over the years without ever actually being unpacked. I came across a few random car models and thought I'd offer them up here before they go to the charity shop, happy to send them on for the cost of P&P if anyone has a particular desire for any of it:

IMG_0012.jpgIMG_0009.jpg

1/18 scale Opel Manta by Revell - bit scruffy, mirrors glued on, spoiler and wipers missing, a few cosmetic marks but looks OK from a distance

IMG_0006.jpgIMG_0007.jpg

1/24 scale Porsche 356 - no idea who made it, front bumper missing a piece of trim, one wheel is glued on as the pivot's missing and therefore is immobile but works OK for static display

IMG_0005-1.jpgIMG_0004.jpg

1/24 scale Jaguar XK8 by Maistow - a bit dusty but otherwise in excellent condition

IMG_0001-1.jpg

1/32 scale Jaguar XK8 toy - has a pull-back-and-go windup mechanism which does work, also in excellent condition

IMG_0013.jpg

3x 1/43 scale models - MGB, BMW Z3 and Toyota RAV4 mounted on plastic plinths. Not sure where these came from, the BMW and Toyota are in good condition but the MGB's a bit shabby with a missing quarterlight and wing mirrors.

Bit random I know but seemed a shame to just chuck them out and I'm sure someone on here probably collects models - that said, none of these are terribly high quality so don't expect anything too special :D Drop me a PM if you want any of it.

Fordperv you have pm.

Yeah it is a nice model (apart from the wheels which are a bit too small for it really) and I've always liked it but I'm not one for hoarding, always prefer to see things go to someone who can make better use of them if all I'll do otherwise is keep it in a box in the loft. I do recall seeing a yellow version which must look pretty good. Don't worry, i don't think I've ever binned one, I have a mass of smaller ones in three old wine boxes in the garage which will go to a good home at some point :D

:P

Sorry, you might be waiting a while :D DIdn't mean to tease but there's a lot of little ones, mostly in pretty rough, played-with condition from the eighties/early nineties, waaay too many to pass on individually and I can't remember what is actually in there. If I do get a chance to look through them at some point I will let you know though! I doubt any of it is worth anything individually so I'd only want to get rid of the lot en-mass when I get round to them.

Got the real one to fix first :P

The 1:43s are Cararama models, which seemed to be on sale in the UK about 10 to 15 years ago. I think some also made it to these shores re-badged a Schucos. Their range at the time seemed to be mostly Japanese 4x4s and prestige models, along with some modern Mercs, Volvos, Saabs and BMWs, with the odd 'classic' MGB, Beetle, VW bus/camper and gullwing Merc cropping up now and again. The same models seem to crop up in 1:72 scale as well, but with a wider variety in that scale. I've also come across some Cararama 1:87s that seem identical to what Schuco sold in that scale.

They all seemed pretty good models for the amazingly low price - I remember buying some 1:43s for about £4 at about the turn of the millennium. The Schuco badged ones were at least twice the price though, but were in seemingly different colours.

Cararama disappeared for a few years, but are now back with Oxford diecast as their (only?*) UK distributor. If anyone's interested, their website's here:

http://www.oxforddiecast.co.uk/navigationCA/Index.html

They now seem as if they're tied in with Abrex (who are probably best known for 1:43 models of Eastern European chod, such as Skodas).

* I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Lobster has some

Cararama 1/72s are ace, I have literally dozens of them and used to pick them up for next to nothing from pound stores, tacky souvenir shops, market stalls and other odd places. The full list is at http://www.matchbox.box.nl/jnhcsnum.php?Sort=n - the Russian and Czech motors are GR12 and I'd love one of those Skoda Estelles but Oxford don't seem to import much of the 1/72 stuff nowadays. Still on the subject of 1/72, check out Yodel/Real-X for some awesome J-tin, sadly not imported here.

Thats about the size of it. Oxford are responsible for Cararama in the UK at present. Some of it is very good for the money, others less so but generally they are ok. From what I can gather, Abrex is essentially produced by Cararama although its distributed by a different company in the UK. Seems that Cararama just manufacturer it for Abrex and their involvement ends there. The Abrex stuff is usually a step up in quality from the normal Cararama stuff though with the excepetion of some of the Fabia VRs models which have been uncharacteristiclly iffy.

Indeed I haz.
