Maxi had its radiator removed with a digger....this yard has the council contract in Wellington hence why they are over capacitated with the excess Japper 2nd hand imports we ve been inudated with since the import tariffs were lifted..which followed the demise of our car assembly plants in the Wellington region..and the rust issue is naturally a coastal problem ...anything inland has a high preservation rate....The 1990 Mitsi Mirage which we got thru this yard for $500 just got a new warrant only needing wiper blades..god we hate it..love it..

just bought a Canon G10 camera...so recent spots..

I lived in NZ for a bit and couldnt believe there were Marina's, Allegro's, Renault 12's and Mk4 Cortinas over there with no rust at all. I dont think the authorities in Christchurch used to salt the roads so rust was much less of an issue.Loads of Jap Tat over there. I had an 87 "Microwave Back" Honda Civic and a 1991 Corolla with a quarter of a million k's on the clock. Both had faded paint but everything else was tip top. Bought a 1994 Corolla when I got back to the UK which I have had for five years during which it has needed a fan belt on top of regular oil changes - and thats it. Cant argue with that sort of reliability although when driving through East London I often get mistaken for an illegal minicab......

Not quite right, no salt is used anywhere, and around here the roads are spread with grit on icy mornings, and as I live inside a volcano there's probably some volcanic stuff in the grit. There are also a few places on the City roads where the underground heat stops ice forming too!

after that..stopped off at a mates palace which is on the local cop shop route..so after watching a convoy of rozzers leaving in hot pursuit..we turned on the police radio to follow events..result..car chase ,crash and apprehension..i pedalled to the crime scene and recorded the evidence.

Posted Image

turned out it was a rather nice old Corolla in the ditch..relatively unscathed considering...
