TWINGO in there! Never understood why they didn't do a RHD and sent them over here - they'd have cleaned up

Renno's worst decision in the last 20 there!
IIRC summat to do with brake master cylinders interfering with the engine, and with the amount they'd have sold there wasn't any profit in sorting it out and tooling up for a rhd one. Shame, because I love the early Twingo...Good job they made the one in the advert with a non-GB plate, despite the sheep looking like British mules, however!

Yep, shame about the Twingo. They must have been good to make Brits put up with LHD; there are loads still running around the UK. And I'm sure I've seen one converted to RHD with bits from... ?? or was that just in a dream I had? On the sheep... I've not seen mule ewes with horns quite like that in GB!Anyway, here is the behind the scenes clip of the making of the ad in Spain:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gllAKgbSjvM&feature=relatedHow many times did they send that R12 across the ford? D'ya think they made any alterations?

Just seen this on the telly - R12 going for a dip - KWAWLITY  Funny that the 'new' 4x4 rescues the R4 from the mud!I recon it should probably have been the other way around, with the city-boy-driven 4x4 being rescued by an R4 that had only ever been repaired with a hammer, a stick and some twine, and being driven by a bumbling Monseiur puffing on a Gitanes.

I have to say that I love that ad,,but because of the older cars.It actually brought a tear/teer to my eyes--Brill.The Koleos,,well I'm not convinced----Its does not feel like a Renault Inside.I got a chance to give one a good look around the first one that arrived during the week.First impressions" were" encouraging. The Megane front end looks better in the flesh than pictures suggest---though this comes a few years too late as they change the front of the cars(Laguna)etc.Rear end is striking,,but the boot is small--very small. The interior is a mix of Renault/Nissan/Koreanish.---More Nissan-Hyundai than Renault though. If somebody covered the badge on the wheel you would definitely say it was Korean. I know that it is built at the Samsung factory, and this shows! The climate control unit is straight out of the Qashqai. I think its 4 years too late coming to the market, and it brings nothing new----Time will tell, but as much as a Renault Fan as I am,,not sure if i'd buy!!!!!!

I wonder how many of those old Renners were cherished cars carefully tracked down through owners' clubs etc, and how many wound up in some Spanish breakers yard the instant filming finished.

Wasn't the Twingo designed by Dacia in the late 80s and sold to Renault? Sure I read that somewhere...

It was based on the Polish Beskid 106 apparently.

Renault waited until the patent on the body style expired, and then knocked out their own version. Or so the story goes...

Drifting a little off topic- - It's taken as a given these days that most adverts are total bollocks (where is the advertising standards authority?) and car ads especially tell us virtually nothing about the actual car, only the image the manufacturor is trying to project. But the one that really gets my goat at the moment is for the new Ford Kuga (have they forgotten about the Cougar?) It makes the point that when starting with a blank sheet of paper to design something, you don't have to follow the crowd, you can be original and come up with something new and fresh, suggesting that's what the designers of the Kuga have done. Then, when it appears on screen, it looks EXACTLY like all the others in it's class!!! How dim do they think we all are?

Re car ads being bollox, exactly! look at the ridiculous new Saab advert for its 'green' efficiency but "power when needed to overtake" they don't explain (not even hint) as to how it works, just state some ambiguous lie like "due to advanced technology" and the finale of the ad is a clearly sped up bit of footage of the thing winding off into the distance. what thoroughbred pish that is...

It looks like what you'd get if you mashed together an R5 Supercinq, with a Citroen AX, sprinkled with a dash of Daihatsu Domino!

I quite like the Koleos, and I hope Renault sell shedloads of 'em....They deserve to after producing such a beautifully evocative ad for it....Fives frolicking on a beach? Twelve fording a deep river? Sixteen in the snow?

Utterly SUPERB! :D

And that biege Espace? That is the EXACT Espace of all my dreams....I want it!
