Visited the Kit car show on Sunday. Having been to the Auto Italia day a few weeks earlier (will post some pics) and coo-ed over the delicious offerings on show, this was a stark reminder that some people should not be allowed to design cars.

I mean someone has said to himself, " I really fancy building my own car and I can make it more beautiful then anything else out there. And use the worst of 20 year old technology to underpin it"

I give you

Even as a kid I thought these were faintly ridiculous, all hairy chest and gold medallions, and especially with 1200 VW power.

I was drawn to this:

I remember these used to be allowed right down to the sidelines at footy matches. I miss not seeing them - wasnt the door hinged at the bottom or something, to created a kind of wheelchair ramp?

Isnt the top one a Mini -Based GTM? It looks a little less kit-like than some of the others.

Hahaha, great thread  More piles of shite than at the entrance to our local abbatoir.

I like the fact that a Combo high-cube's died to create that trailer (was gunnu do that myself with a front-ended Courier ten years ago, but bottled it) HOWEVER that's the stupidest use of a Vaux grille I've yet seen.

Looks like Mk1 Scrote based on the left, and Mk2 on the right - the windscreen angle looks too vertical (see it relative to the slope of the A-post) for a Crapi. At least these two appear completed - always makes me chuckle that most kitcar builders start with the best intentions, then only do enough to get it on the road (which usually means a lack of decent paintjob).

I love shite kitcars, there was an absolutely world-class Eagle RV Jeep at the bubble car museum - standard issue gasping pinto with a rusty chrome K+N pancake filter, B+Q 'shed door' hinges self-tappered straight into the fibreglass for the front doors, 'warp factor 9' plywood plank dashboard with cortina clocks in the middle plus a cock-eyed 'Ghia' badge glued on with a massive splat of evostik....utter utter dross. did anyone get any pics of it?

Even Beloved was laughing at some of the stuff at Newark - it was an entertaining day out all round. She was much more interested in some of the punters (and had plenty to say about the spray-tanned modellz). There was a heady air of mid-life crisis amongst the blokes slobbering over the MR2s, sorry, Ferrari replicas, and too many blokes in 1980s Milletts jumpers around some of the more "hands-on" stuff.

And some plain oddities ...
