There's a major scene tax on campers of any description at the moment so a VW will have double.

It's a bit more even than just that though, surely? If, as described, it's effectively a new, or at least "as new," vehicle, with that sort of total resto job, I'd have thought it was well worth the money, compared to anything else new of the type? Not that I'd pay it, you understand, but I can see why he's asking that sort of price.
