Christ, I didn't think BMW allowed ANYTHING to roll out of showrooms without optional alloys - all their press cars, interestingly, have been on alloys since the early 80's! Obv. someone who had to have a MINI but the cheapest way possible - probably doesn't even have a/c either! There's some farmer bloke with a Musso locally, you can be guaranteed to be stuck behind him doing 35mph when you're late for work. Finally, WTF is that Mondeo all about. Ghastly.

Thats 4738 Groups Ex- WMPTE Ailsa. This gets about a bit - having been up my way at Lathalmond.

The Volvo Ailsas are my all time favourite bus since they were concieved and built entirely (if it has an Alexander body) in Scotland, for the Scottish Bus Group 8) I loved riding to work in them when I lived in Glasgow :D

I had the pleasure of a quick hurl in a mk1 Ailsa last weekend... hellfire.

I think that Mini would benefit from really, really light grey, almost white bumpers in the fashion of the early Renault 5s and Chrysler Alpines, with a slightly darker shade of grey for the grille, a darker still shade for the light surrounds, an incredibly noisy 2 - stroke engine then take no prisoners with the blanking plates. It`s a start, though. The Orion Equippe does indeed warrant further investigating, a fantastic run-out edition which, if it`s anything like my old Escort Eclipse, gives you all the equipment and body accoutrements (including a rather smart ceiling mounted LCD clock) of the XR3i/Ghia Injection, sporty 185 tyres and snazzy semi colour coded bumpers that are moulded in a darker version of the body colour, but mated to the economical 1.3 pushrod engine affording it`s owner a quasi-prestigious driving experience without putting additional strain on his wallet.

Looks like it's been raped of its nice original alloys by some mk5 Escort van owner:

EDIT: Ah see Craig that yellow IXO model wasn't so far fetched!

Ooh, that reminds me, haven't got that yet. Better see if there's still some around on fleabay.
No me neither - another on my ever increasing list! I'm so far behind with my model collecting now I don't think I'll ever get all the ones I want

The vehicle details for F991 GNX are: Date of Liability 01 08 2008 Date of First Registration 10 05 1989 Year of Manufacture 1989 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1117CC

Assuming that it didn't do a few months as a Channel Islands rental car before import, that is indeed pretty late seeing as "MkIII" sales were well underway by May 89. A few G-reg MkIIs around though. That one looks pretty smart! Wonder if it's the CTX jerkomatic.

Quite an effeminate sounding name for a bus isn't it? I quite like the look of them front on though. Never lived anywhere or near anywhere that had them though. Was too young to remember them having their short stint with LT

The pioneers and builders of the 'Aeiullss!!' (cue Alf 'Flamin' Stewart accent) were Ailsa Truck and Bus of Irvine, Ayrshire. They were named after Ailsa Craig, a ruddy great rock in the Clyde estuary off the shore of Irvine. 8)

I had a brief shot at this a couple of weekends back, I wanted to hate it but only the crap steering lock annoyed me. Would be a different matter on a 10-hour shift in the height of summer with the noise and heat of the engine next to your left leg.

For a day, I was Ailsa Craig. :)
