Another I've remembered:

...share rear lights?

I think you might be onto something! Although they look to be the same as the Alpine GTA V6 lights rather than the later Alpine A610 like you've pictured, the lenses on which have got grooves across them but are the same style.

I don't know why we can't get offered that Saab? I heard it was supposed to be an SUV.......Saab being one of the few without one in the range in other markets.....

I think the main reason was that GM sold off their shares in Subaru and the car that might have been sold in Europe never came about. There were mutterings of a new version a while back but it never came to be.There is also this fan site http://saab92x.com/

I had read about the Sub/Saab in the motoring rags - sounds like an interesting

tie-up. Yeah, it's a shame we never got it as it's probably good shite to look

forward to when it drops to our kind of budget.

I don't know why we can't get offered that Saab?

GTD2000 is surely right, but it's maybe also because in Britain

both Saab and Subaru have their own distinct-ish niches

(as distinct as any these days), and each is serviced by a loyal

fan-base of buyers. So such a joint venture maybe wouldn't be as beneficial

as they figured it would be Stateside.

Well that's what I thought.

MC or anyone:

What's under the skin of this one?

Posted Image

I looked at the picture for too long, and now I'm seeing things again...

The front bumper looks like it should be on the back with 'zorst trims poking through!

Mr_Regie:

Great picture-finding skillzz - I struggled to find the back of an Alpine.

Are you with me on this pair?

Posted Image

and...

Posted Image

:D Sorry - couldn't resist when that came back from googlepics!

Posted Image

I thought it looks a bit like this:

Posted Image

...but the glasshouse is pure is exactly like...

Posted Image

The 944 Kombi pics are from this site with a few build shots:

http://www.hotgraffix.de/Seite5.htm

Shame I can't read German.

Seeing that made me remember this creation:

Posted Image

...which I saw on the Eng/German bilingual cable channel here.

It told the story of the build, and apparently it drove and handled really

well after a bit of R+D!

Spottedlaurel You, sir are a veritable font of J-info! Respect.

That r.welfare certainly knows his stuff too!

Volksy The Camiras only came here in wagon guise, I think.

Perhaps Holden spotted an un-exploited niche in Thailand, as very few

estates have ever been sold here. The only mainstream one on sale now

is the Chevy Optra. There are others, but they're European imports at

five times the price.

There are still a few Espero saloons about, as I said before. Did they

make a hatch or estate version?? I've not seen any of either.

Hirst Don't do it! NOOOO! Not an Espero! Anything but that!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

gtd2000 That's one C8)L Celeste you had there!

Do you know where it is now?

Hey guys!

Remember this beauty from page one?

Posted Image

The car, fellas!

Well...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

^ I was well chuffed to get that today, because I missed it a couple of

weeks ago.

This is the oldest style of pick-up based on the Mazda 1000 that we commonly see around:

Posted Image

^ Nicely restored with a coffee kiosk on the back.

Here are the two later shapes:

Posted Image

The full monty: long, tall cab and matching canopy:

Posted Image

This one is unusual - it has the longer cab of the newer ones, but the low roof of the older ones. I like it!

Posted Image

And this one I'm sure is a home-brew job:

Posted Image

It has the grille off something larger, too.

I've seen others, some cut'n'shuts with four doors, others on 4x4 chassisesessses.

Hey KruJoe, gotta say i love this thread - must be the best on the forum....

Wow, that's quite an accolade to live up to! Thank you, kind sir.

What's the Citroen situation over there like, i'm guessing it must be pretty poor judging by the lack of photo's! Any pics or info would be gratefully received!

The only proper shite vintage Citroens I've posted are a few BXs. I've not

spotted much else other than some 1.4 AXs and the odd ZX. There's

nothing older, other than a few of these:

Posted Image

And there's not much newer, too. We sometimes see imported future-shite

C5s or Pluriel funny roof things up fron Bangkok, but they only sell there

in small mumbers due to the crazy import taxes. I don't think there's a

Citroen showroom here in the north now. :(

But I spoke to the English owner of that CX ^...

He said he can get absolutely any part from Citroen, but he has to WAIT,

and has to PAY! A bullet he happily bit for the spheres, though.

His CX runs a Nissan carb, he said it was an easy fix for his mechanic,

and it runs better than original!

This is his daily:

Posted Image

And his wife's wheels:

Posted Image

With big federal bumpers and top comedy badging!

Posted Image

He's part of a new club based in Chiang Mai:

Maybe one day...

It's past my bedtime now, so here's my "Catch of the Day".

Maybe all you Celeste fans will appreciate this:

Posted Image

Posted Image

The front looks very American to me...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Datsun 200SX.

More tomorrow...

I sold it to a younger lad on the condition that he looked after it - he promised that he would and couldn't wait to get his hands on the car.

To say the car was abused would be an understatement :(

As far as I've heard, it spent the end of it's life somewhere near St Boswells in Scotland and one of my pals think he saw it at S&I Thomsons breakers yard in Galashiels a few years later :(

Today I'll start with a couple from my "want before I die" list:

Posted Image

Enough dreaming already... this one was looking very sad - beyond

rescue I'm afraid :(

Posted Image

Posted Image

I think I have a new desktop background! (Mk1 Bongo)

gtd2000...

I almost regret asking about that SUV family - that's quite some ugliness

you've posted there! The Saab looks by far the best of the lot - not that I

would...

I'm sorry I asked about the fate of your Celeste, too. A sad tale

indeed.

Seeing this ^ the other day, and Mr Bickles babies today...

Posted Image

...(especially the middle one) made me remember this:

Posted Image

I had been holding out for ages to get a better angle (or the lowered yellow one I

sometimes see) but I thought I'll let you at it now.

Anyone seen one before??

From the back wheel forward, it looks like a 505 saloon, but there's a

big pick-up bed where the boot should be!

And I'm sure it's original, not a bodge-up.

It was wonderful to see that Fiat Miafiore ?sp earlier in the thread. My Dad had one. Far, far rustier than the Avenger he had. Someone nearby has one, but a sport version and UK import.

Speaking of Avengers, as we weren't, I had a spotting dilemma yesterday!

I was at the side of a road in the University, I spotted a green Avenger

coming one way, and this coming from the other:

Posted Image

I had to whip out my apparatus and do my stuff, but it was one or the other. Not both.

Unfortunately for the Avenger, I caught up with this one and it parked up within moments and posed

for me to have a second look!

Posted Image

I'm not sure if it's ugly or beautiful at the front - certainly not boring.

I like the back, long as it is. I know its a VW - tell me more! Please...?

Posted Image

Shame about the damage to the door.

For rareness value, I reckon it earns "Catch of the Day".

Thanks for the comments guy, always welcome.

Later...

KJ.

Its a VW Karmann Ghia, but one based on the VW type 3 (Fastback/Varient) Its model code is Type 34.

Quite rare, used to rot like buggery.. I have had custody of one for a while, lovely styling in my eyes, and nice to drive.

Sold poorly due to its cost, and styling.

This is what it's based on...

There's only two versions, The 'pretty' one which evolved and ran up until the '70's and the Type 34 which had a short production life, hence the rareness. I much prefere the Type 34. :D

but possibly a rare double cab variation? I can't really tell from that pic.

It's one of these, as described:

Posted Image

-edit- I think it's not just like that... the ones here have a wider, squarer

pick-up bed - wider than the saloon body lines, perhaps like that blue one of DC's.^

Dunno if they're smoothed in or separate - can't remember.

Basically the same profile as that white one, though.

Sorry I can't get my own pic - I used to see a yellow one every week or

so, but it's vanished. I got that one ^ from this French link, loads of great

505 pics incl a cabriolet, coupe and a Dangel 4x4 like the red one ont' bay

recently:

http://www.forum-auto.com/automobiles-mythiques-exception/section5/sujet341276.htm

I'm sure I've seen a Mitsubishi or two in the same vein, with the saloon-ish

sloping back window, and Galant-esque face like this:

Posted Image

I've yet to get a picture, though.

They sort of remind me of this Legacy Outback based "Baja":

Posted Image

One of those I'd like! Maybe a bit too much plastic.

I've read they were US made for the Americas markets only...

True?? I think they'd have gone down well with the Aussies.

Shame we never got 'em.

There was the Proton Jumbuck & the one based on the Skoda Felicia, both kinda the same sort of thing & both available in bright yellow! ..... 8)

The Skoda would be my pick of the two... there was a dicky-seat that slid

out the back of the cab somehow into the load bed - very funky!

They come up on ebay now and again. I'm sure one of the Skoda nuts on

RR has one.

A neighbour of ours (in England) had one of the Protons, but they were

less wacky; along the same lines as these:

Posted Image

Posted Image

...which are based on this:

Posted Image

Called Nissan NVs, and were sold up to last year.

The green one ^ has 2 seats, the newer "Queen Cab" has an extra little bench.

They're fairly common in these parts, they're good value.

Another unusual pick-up car spotted today - likely a grey import:

Posted Image

And some truck shite. I've not noticed one of these before:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Daihatsu Delta Diesel

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

^ WTF?? Double wishbones! It's hiding something v.nice, too. ^

Remember this:

Posted Image

I love the natural a/c! I know it says FORD on the front, but I'm still no

wiser - can anyone tell me any more?

That's all for now, folks.
