KruJoe
' Ratdat... That's a pretty baby, it looks like the result of a Maxi and a Mk1 Golf getting together. In a good way. Big6... Yes, I loved this one too: I found a tiny thumbnail of a Publica ragtop (not worth posting), and it seemed to have the same Frenched lights as this, so they may be original. My spots must be UP10s, the pics show UP20s with narrower, full-width grilles, and the headlights are different again: (google pic) This one looks well loved, if less than tastefully modified. I had to lean over both of the drive gates to get the pics. Well done again Michiel with identifying these babys! From Wiki:As Toyota had just started its relationship with Daihatsu, in 1969 the latter launched the Daihatsu Consorte, which was essentially a mildly restyled P30 Publica. It was, however, powered initially by Daihatsu's own 1.0 L engine, which saw service in the previous Daihatsu model, the Compagno.I was googling for Publica pictures, and it sent me to a page in the middle of a 136 page long picture-rich thread... it's all in Spanish or Portuguese, and as far as I can tell it's called "Possibly the rarest cabrios in the world".Page 1 kicks off with a Mk1 Fiesta Fly and a Fuego conversion and the last page has pics of 2door CX ragtops. The other 134 pages seem full of wierd concepts, prototypes, one-offs and conversions. Top-flight shite! The foreign text doesn't matter, the pics are pure gold:http://www.bmwfaq.com/f7/posiblemente-cabrio-mas-raros-del-mundo-aun-mas-rarezas-36 Enjoy.(If that link doesn't work, click the link at the bottom of my post.If that don't work, tell me!) Mr R R...That "porthole" on the Charade had reminded me of the Mk1 Polo's feature. Are they air vents on the Polo? I was reading an Audi 50 thread on RR and I assumed they were filler covers, until I noticed the square one low down on the driver's side! Time for a few spots... Today, the wife and I were spotted spotting: ^ Ford Festiva badged Kia Pride/Mazda 121. Which came first? 505 lights on this? I've also seen one with BM E30 clusters. And right next to it: This W123 took quite a smack: But see how well it crumpled where it should I'm surprised to see that on such an old car...I bet the driver's glad he wasn't in a Publica! These two were also surprises: ^ That's the only thing I've seen here with a Colt badge. But I think for me, this is the "Catch of the Day": A resting Austin A?? van. Snapped though holes in a wall. Lovely. KJ Hey, don't forget to look at this thread!http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=es&u=http://www.bmwfaq.com/f7/posiblemente-cabrio-mas-raros-del-mundo-aun-mas-rarezas-36042/&sa=X&oi=translate&resnum=1&ct=result&prev=/search%3Fq%3D%2522fiesta%2Bfly%2522%2B%2522Renault%2Bfuego%2522%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DG(I just tested the link--broken for me--so this is the same translated by google) Edited again to fix broken links. Ratdat
It's an A30 van. Identifiable by the lack of a chrome surround around the grille and no factory indicators below the headlights. KruJoe
After seeing TiffX19's VAG pics (R8 thread), and then Ratdat's amazing Datsun camper spot, thought I'dbetter post this pair: Remember I said I'd not seen any split screens while out spotting?Well, I got these the very next morning! They were parked under a small hotel, along with these two: In the same hotel were these: Remember this a couple days ago? Well that was a good day for Ovlovs... ^ Homemade bodykit? ...the best is yet to come... Poor old Crown! Looks like it’s sat for bit? Yes, I think so! Check out the rust on the bottom half of the wheels, and I could have got my arm in the hoe in the sill What’s going on with the 323 hatch? Different rear lights and big plastic bumpers? I had this pic but I didn't include it before when I was talking about the clean lines of the 323 -- this one's spoilt a bit. Homemade rubbing strips, too. Rear lights are often substituted due to parts-sourcing issues. Are they Datsun Cherry lights? Sometimes, modern bumpers and light clusters are grafted in along with parts of the back panels to make a car look more modern than it is. There's a Mk3? Corolla around with EvoIII Lancer back lights, and Mk7? Corolla front end! I'm yet to get it for you...Maybe you can just see the 90s Mitsubishi pick-up clusters stuck on the back if this creation? KruJoe
Thanks for the little Dat! Mazda's known as a 626 over here, and that P1800's pretty cool, as is the rest... Vauxhall Viva? Vauxhall Viva HB I thought Viva, but it's not the model I remember as a kid - those had horizontal rear light units.Would it have been sold with an Opel badge and another name here, like other Vauxhalls? I noticed another of these today, but my SD card was full. The gold Mazda does appear to be a 626 but I thought all of ours over here were coupes, so the ones I've seen look different to that. Today's was indeed badged “626 SuperCustom†IIRC. They do look rather small to me for a 626 - not really much bigger than a 323. There are a few of the 90s rounded 626s about – the hatches have the spoiler moulded in and you can see out the back under it. The Saloons arenon-descript blobs. The earlier 626 saloons I’m familiar with are these: But most of the 626s around here are these coupes: They all look really scuffy and unloved – real budget barges. As do most of the Corona Fastbacks and these Galants: Must be something to do with the age and size of them. Also, hatchbacks still haven’t really caught on here properly. They have always been looked down on. The first successful seller is the Honda Jazz, they’ve been very fashionable for the last couple years, perhaps because they look different from hatchbacks in the past And now Toyota is just starting to get a slice of the cake with the new Yaris. Between them, Toyota absolutely dominate the mainstream passenger car market, and Honda sell most of the rest. (Not counting pick-ups, where Isuzu are usually the best sellers, followed by Toyota and the rest. Apparently Thailand is the biggest market for pick-ups outside the States!) Got a Corona saloon today – same generation as the fastbacks? ^ I loved the rims – I bet they flash as they turn! Just seen the Hello Kittynumber plate – not so keen on that!More Kitty action later… I took this pic this morning in Chiang Mai University showing the best-sellers. It’s unusual because usually car parks are over-run with 1 ton pick-ups, as they sell better than normal cars (because of tax breaks etc). They're nearly all silver or gold Toyotas and Hondas! On the left is a blue Soluna, and opposite are a matching pair of Solunas with the other style rear lights. The little silver saloon next to the Jazz is a Toyota Soluna Vios. The Soluna Vios replaced the Soluna, and they are even more common. Absolutely everywhere. This is a more typical truck-dominated car park scene: More from within Chiang Mai University... The Uni was a good place for spotting, but I must apologise for the picture quality today. (^ Look at the state ^) The mid-morning sun was particularly sparkly, and the University being the leafy haven it is, most of my shots have come out half too bright, half too dark. Next time I’ll go later in the day, or better still, when it’s a bit cloudy. Some two-tone action: A couple more Solunas. ^ Two-tone beige barge FTW!A strange combination of hues: Otherwise very nice to see. ^ Not sure if it's just dirty Two-tone never really fell out of favour here, especially for pick-ups: ^ But they sold these Stradas like that in GB didn't they? They're all two tone here.(Sorry MrRegie, this shape of Mitsu pick-up are called Strada here,I apologise if I got you momentarily excited! ) More campus tat: http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010300/P1030702.jpg http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010300/P1030965.jpg http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010300/P1030704.jpg ^ Badged GTR Gemini... is it an Isuzu http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Gemini.png Micras are rare, and usually have no badges, but I think they're called"March" as in Japan. I forgot to get the front, because they usually don't have the sidelights next to the headlights, so they look more like Metros to me! http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010300/P1030715.jpg ^ Just noticed the seats in that! When I look back on my days spots, I often see so many more back ends of cars than the fronts I guess maybe I find the rear more interesting. http://snap36.photobox.co.uk/25480151dabfcb3f148a0dc72be507747d9149aa3e4fe8d08902ef77.jpg Finally! Yontrakit assemble cars in Thailand for many manufacturers who send their cars here in kit form. This avoids some of the huge taxes imposed on CBU (completely built up) imports. I think BMW and Peugeot, among others, still use Yontrakit. http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010400/P1040052.jpg http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010400/P1040237-1.jpg http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010400/P1040058.jpg http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010400/P1040059.jpg ^ A lovely clean one. I got that picture from this interesting site; http://funnycars.blogspot.com/ and here's the encyclopaedia of Vivas! http://www.vauxhallviva.com/thecars/thehaviva.html But most of the 626s around here are these coupes: Think this is the same type as the blue saloon I posted on my "Dick Spotted" thread. ^ But they sold these Stradas like that in GB didn't they? They're all two tone here.(Sorry MrRegie, this shape of Mitsu pick-up are called Strada here,I apologise if I got you momentarily excited! )These are L200 Warriors over here. Since Fiat re-issued the Strada name & gave it to an 'other markets only' pickup, I now get this if I google for Strada, so it's nice to make a change & get a different vehicle instead (even if it's still not 'what I call a Strada!'). At least the name is new to them because originally only us & the states were given the original Strada, everywhere else got Ritmo, so it's a new name to them at least. ^ A lovely clean one.
