Cavcraft
Class stuff, brilliant thread. Any chance you could pack that old Yam and the Vespa into your suitcase and bring them home for me please?
KruJoe
Prince Skyline. Concise as ever Hirst, just the way we like him. Look at the rest of us floundering about for an ID. Class stuff, brilliant thread.Any chance you could pack that old Yam and the Vespa into your suitcase and bring them home for me please? Ta Billy. I'm sure you've asked me for a Lambretta in the past too! Make a list, I'll fill a container for you, it can be done. CAVCRAFT's sales figures had better meet your projections first, I'm not doing it on credit! Time for a BUMP, it's been a while since we had a DUMP of shite here.Where were we? Chiang Rai, the northern-most tip of the country, bordering Burma and Laos. While the rest of my car-full faffed around preparing to leave town, I went and (literally) got lost in the back streets. WOULD. A long way from home, this tidy E30 wears Bangkok plates. The yellow Galant and this HOT looking Corolla were big time contenders for COTD... Those'll be early 90's 626 wheels, and they suit the Hiace well. ^Also BKK registered, with a ministry coat of arms proudly displayed.By this time, I was admitting I'd become lost, my sense of direction is usually good, but a combination of shooting this fish-in-a-barrel shite, and the wiggly streets had me all discombobulated. It was getting warm too... I found the hotel and the car eventually, with everyone waiting for me, car packed and ready to head south to Chiang Mai again. On the way out of town... WTF? That load (of empty plastic bottles for recycling?) was resting on her back! Then I had to swerve to the curb when we came across this: I shamelessly papped it as it pulled away. They clearly diagnosed me "mental". I don't care, it was worth it for a Stanza Coupe Catch of the Day. L8RZ!

KruJoe
Ta! Well, winter is looming, the clocks have gone back, it can only mean it's time we were heading back to Thailand and resurrecting this compendium of grot spottery. Have a few from back in Chiang Mai. Excues me. I think those Hilux wheel work quite well! Catch of the day? Yes! A standard and un-barried Isuzu Vertex. Back of the net! We'll be there in 10 days, so brace yourselves! KruJoe
Spot the difference: The darker blue one is a rare beast, even here. They're both blue so you'd get lucky whichever you rocked! The BX was papped from our moving car, so it's the only shot I have. The back bumper is different to my own, is it a Mk1?The mirror looks like an earlier one, too. A view down the historic Tha Pae Road in Chiang Mai. The "Boys in Brown" love to hide just around the corner at the end of this road, where there's no escape. They jump out to catch helmet-less riders for a bit of tea money, so that's why everyone has a lid on in this shot. They won't bother this guy, despite his strap not being done up! He's made the token gesture, that's what counts. Clearly not a 'fan' of health and safety.(Sorry.) Catch of the day: We've seen a few saloons, and pick-ups, even the mysterious factory crew-cab jobs, but this is the first station wagon for a long time. I'd forgotten just how long these were! Nice to see it so smart, too. Bye for now!

KruJoe
Let's kick off with yet more Corolla joy: Rather below par this one, but still worth a look. Another drive-by effort: That's a fairly new Honda Dream. Three rear mudguards! Heading out of town on a day trip, we stopped for an iced coffee. The Thais have a thing for converting old vans and stuff into coffee bars. How zany. Through the grille: Wankel goodness We followed this pair for a mile or so before I dared overtake. They'd both obviously had a skinful and were meandering all over. If I was the one to run them down, I'd be paying for each of their families to have a new house built. We see a few of these upcountry in the winter holiday season - usually carrying a rich Bangkok tribe on their jollies: To me, these monstrosities are looking slightly less hideous than they did a couple years ago. Maybe because I now have my eyes assaulted daily by the sight of Peugeot 3008s etc. This family spotted me papping their ride as they packed up. There were some bemused giggles, so I tried to style it out by taking a picture of a flower. It didn't work. Eugh. Ah, that's better. I never miss the chance of an old KB. Up by the dam, these ones. Those early L200s do respond well to a little light rodding. The 'Familia' is the last interpretation of the Mazda 1000 pick-up idea. This one will have a 1.4 pez lump, five speed box and front disks, as well as the big frumpy cab. This Big-M is fairly tidy looking for an ice truck! Around town, the most battered pick-ups are ice delivery trucks. They take cubes for drinks, and great blocks of ice for cool boxes, to the bars and restaurants, leaving a trail of water wherever they go. Often the beds are rusted and hanging off. When they do finally give up, they're often replaced with nicely made stainless steel copies. This one made me think "red plastic sandal". Oh look. How appropriate. This is more like it - a teaser for next time: I spotted this at a red-neck motocross meet we stumbled on. 'Catch of the day' WINNAR !!!!11!!1 Do you know what it is yet? michiel
Superb spots & words once again - it's a Daihatsu version of a Toyota Dyna I think, but the name eludes me... starts with a D as well?I love that useless sandal pickup.
KruJoe
Daihatsu Delta! It's great to still this one still working, with a government crest on the door too.Well done Michiel. I can't find much on't internet about it, but it bears some resemblance to the 1968 U10 Toyota Dyna, and is Hino related. I'll look again later for some images to compare. KruJoe
Right, we're officially back on the ground in Chiang Mai, so you can expect more of this skullduddery until at least February.Sorry about that. A nuvver Stanza - apologies for it's truncation, but a saloon of this vintage is worthy of inclusion. Even with the new 'quick-draw' Lumix, I wasn't fast enough. Also, while waiting at the same traffic lights... Every post in this thread should have a slightly dusty KB. They're SRSLY PHIT.This one is earning its living with the roadside orange hawkers. Same same but different. Both displaying questionable taste in the wheel department. Yes, I know... but I had to. It would have been rude not to. ^ That's our apartment building in the background. It has a distinctive silhouette compared to all the grubby concrete cubes around the city. A short cab Familia. Not much space inside these! "Super Cab" Familia - my favourite shape. A shocking picture (full zoom, full iso) of a Publica heading towards the Night Bazaar. It looked like it had been rubbed down almost to bare metal. Hopefully it'll have a new winter coat soon. Even out at night, I'm never without the camera here, so check in again, there'll be more! Catch of the day... Yes, even Chiang Mai has it's grubby back street Citroen man! He probably thought I was a bit mental until I showed him a picture of my BX... then he knew for sure. At full zoom once again. Lurking in the back of the shed, I think this was an Anglia adapted to fit* early Mazda 1000 pick-up lights: So I was quite pleased to find this little lot. Worthy winners. Call in again soon! KruJoe
Thanks Chris!Evening all. An ode to Triggertron to kick things off: I lack much knowledge of two-wheeled shite, but I guessed this fits the bill. It certainly looks like it rides real nice*. Ha ha - just noticed, some K9 has shown his disgust on the front end! This has been for sale for long enough in this state. The shacks behind have recently been leveled. Zoomed in: Panned out... Not much wrong with that, is there? At my tame Volvo man's gaff: Yep, that's a 1JZ in there. On gas. I asked him if it goes well, he said that even when it's running right, it's nowt special - too nose-heavy he said. Maybe that's because he has access to such exotica as... As you're well aware by now, Jap-branded one ton pick-ups are ten-a-penny here, but I keep finding unusual variations on the theme: Yesterday I saw a KB station wagon with port-hole windows, but sadly I couldn't stop for a piccie. This one's a jdm Mazda Proceed off of 1972(ish). Also available in North America with a slightly different nose, and a rotary engine! There are many Mazdas on my 'list', but I'm yet to have one of my own. This rwd Mk1 626 looks cock-on, and deserves 'Catch of the day':

KruJoe
Right then you 'orrible lot. As winter continues to blow well into spring in the UK, you're very much overdue another dump from The Land of Smiles. Time to head south again. This Bluey was parked next to us the night before we left. On the road, starting with a rice combine. ^Another little blue Daihatsu for Michiel. More KB loveliness, this one in taxi garb: Arriving in Bangkok, a SSangYong Actyon! That is almost Pontiac Aztec grade naffness. Just a reminder of the great looking* machine: It's health-and-safety gone mad, I tell you! At the time, I thought it was a load of tin roofing off to the recycling yard, but a closer look shows it's a permanent modification, and it's full of plastic bottles, on its way to the recycling yard. I bet unloading that is fun*. They probably drop a couple of Burmese kids in the top, and get them to lob the bottles out one-by-one. Hmm. Various*. This is an usual Camry - defo a weird import. I have seen only one other like it, that was a Chinese one on diplomatic plates. H+S once again: In the same traffic jam, a REAL Chevy truck, in not-a-badge-engineered-Isuzu-DMax shocker: These Corona Liftbacks are proper bo, I tell thee. Kwik Kwiz to see if you've been listening all these years... What's that then? Catch of the day! This guy is seriously hardcore to be rolling this beauty as a daily in BKK. It's a tough place to be a car.

catsinthewelder
That little Jeep thing looks like a Daihatsu F10, my former employers were still running one about the site six years ago but unfortunately a Defender 90 seems to have replaced it. KruJoe
Thanks Rich and Chris! I haven't posted as much as I'd have liked this winter. Major interwebs failz prevented me from doing so, because we couldn't use our usual apartment this time. Kwik Kwiz to see if you've been listening all these years... KruJoe
Nope, it's not a Campagno or any Daihatsu. Well done on the lights though, quite sure they're some Lexarse effort for a Mitsu pick-up. They call them Stradas in Thailand. I just googled what I first thought it was, a mk1 Corolla (E10) wagon like this: ...but I was wrong. Any more guesses?
