Sometimes they just seem to wait in lines for me: I'll say it again, sometimes it's like shooting fish in a barrel!That Galant looks very much like one I papped cruising one night in Bangkok* a couple years ago. I'm sure it can't be the same one, I won't go checking now. Tonight's Catch of the day was previewed in the save the Compagno thread. If you ever stop to have your step-thru scooter tweaked, you'll see similar ones welded from sprockets and chain-rings, and may even be offered a seat on one!Here's another bodged together tow truck. This one is an old Nissan with a newer Ford front end. You'll have to take my word for the Nissan bit, I can't find another angle for you now. I know where it lives, I'll go and find it in a couple months! Another variety of Ford Laser, this one based on a 323C: Honda "Freed". Modern, but I've not seen one in the UK. And uncommon as yet in Thailand, I suspect they're either unofficial, or Honda put a premium tag on them. It looks like a grown-up Jazz, and is conveniently in convoy with one. Same colour too! Check out this big FO weapon: I'm guessing the 'Jeep' badge might be a clue, but as I've said, I know nothing of American(?) stuff. I did enjoy the hand-carved chock. Its thundering heart: Shit or Shite? Catch of the day: We had something similar in our eBay thread recently, but that had 'stacker' lights iirc. Sorry for the poor night-time shots. None of the old British stuff is common, but I tend to pap it when I see it. The most 'common' are ADO16s, the odd Allegro etc, and a few 90's Rovers. And series Land Rovers of course. I suspect the majority were sold in Thailand officially, but were never mainstream. The Rover 600 and 800 may even have been brought in as kits and assembled locally, but I'd have to check on that. I suspect very few have come from nearby countries. Diplomatic imports might account for some. Some fewer-wheeled tat. This was still in single figures on the clock - brand new. The brand? Not Honda, but a Thai copy "Tiger" brand. Tiger have been around a few year churning out inferior copies of various Honda step-thrus, mostly Waves, but recently they jumped on the retro bandwagon and started selling these. The cheap "Retro" badge kind of spoils it. Their most interesting effort was a factory offroad version of the Wave 125. I think I have a photo somewhere.Edit; here it is, the Tiger Smart CX125. It has a lever on the left, so they probably have a proper clutch. Which is nice. This I found in a big junk-filled open-sided warehouse which operates as a "We buy and sell anything" store: It looks nearly new. It is a sort of Tuk-Tuk thing as seen in other provinces, but this one looks Chinese. They all have rediculously steep looking fork angles. "Fly Dragon" brand I *heart* these 323s. Make mine an original one, in a pale colour, without a "Powered by Mitsubishi" badge from an air-con unit, please. I don't mind a modern lump shoehorned in to give it a new life, but do keep it in the family! Is there something odd about the headlights on this one? I never tire of these Datsun 620s. Just so right. These body-shop snaps make Catch of the Day. The CX is a rare and special sight. I have photographed the Lotus before; it has been in the same state there for years, almost as a mascot at the front of the shop. For a cool 10 weeks! Yay! We do deserve it, we have worked almost every day since we landed home in January. I had wanted to prime you up with a few posts of previous years' pictures, but the last few weeks before we flew this time have been mental busy with work and stuff. I mean like 18 hours a day busy. So we're right back into it. First off, to celebrate this week's sourcing of a potential addition to the Bickle stable, have an as yet un-posted Compagno. I had forgotten about this shot, probably because it such an appalling photograph, but it popped up on my screensaver which is set to scroll through the albums on my laptop. Picasa tells me "12 Apr 2008", just before our relocation to sunny Yorkshire. See the Catch of the Day ^up there, last time from the body-shop? Well, I went past there again today. Of course there has been no progress on the Lotus, but the CX rolling shell was looking resplendent in a new coat of metallic dark cherry red. It was near the back so sadly no picture today. I hope I get another look. On view today: This place seems to specialise in rally stuff. Oh dear. I see this may not end well. I already have six Photobucket pages of spots from our three days here, but don't think you're having them all now! That's about 30 images a day for you lot and I haven't even been trying. God knows what figures I'll achive if I'm let loose on a bike in this town. If I keep going at this rate, p'bucket will shut me down FO SHO.More silliness: A narrowed Cefiro? Nope. Nissan NV, barried. It should look more like this one with a JDM saloon grille: Love thy neighbour! This was rather special: It might have made COTD had the 'poke' not have been this silly. We took the 850 in to have the LPG system checked over after a year of doing nothing. I had a wander around their workshop: At first glance nothing special... ...but I've not seen a 406 with a back wiper before. Probably not factory, (assembled locally?) but looked well done. I've always thought these are rather special. Twin turbo'd and running on gas! My old Lumix Leica is struggling increasingly with low light, and the on/off switch has a mind of its own, so may be replaced during this trip. My old boy who has serviced and repaired it in the past, has shut down his shop now, so the old faithful may be replaced during this trip. Talking of old boys, I witnessed this piloted serenely by a gent of at least 80. Fading naturally and gracefully, the way God intended. Honest as the day is long, Catch of the Day WINNAR. Peace. I've been out of the UK for too long to see 406s day to day but I really thought that most sedans/saloons just didn't do rear wipes due the vortex business and the fact that the motors get in the way. Very little pov-spec Eurochod here. 'ave summore, you 'orrible lot! We are on floor 14 this year, four floors above our room last year, from where I spotted the Corolla wagon in the same place.Getting closer... Last year: I want to get the 850's wheels repainted, so today I made an excuse to visit the workshop. They advertise spraying at the lane end. I make that a Bertone Mazda Luce, such a pretty shape from the mid 1960's. Ahead of its time. Having a nose around inside the shed: I bet this 405 shifts if they've got that lump running right. I think it's from a MR2 Turbo (fitted backwards?)! I've seen this out and about a few times, and previously papped, but I can't remember if it has been posted before. I do remember enjoying the fact it's sporting a useful brake upgrade, and wondering if it's hiding anything else interesting under its pearly white skin. A few more random spots... I enjoyed the alloys on this 626. Have another navy three door Corolla: This AX may be a re-spot - it's possibly the only one around - I've certainly shown you a similar one with its bonnet up, a few years back. I'll snap you an update when I can. Check out his pair: They were inside a shopping mall advertising a chain of embroidery / knitting shops. Their tea-cosies were completely hand-crocheted and fit fairly well. Someone has had a lot of spare time on their hands. Speaking of craftsmanship... I'd have thought that drives really nicely. n't. Mrs KJ phrased it well: "Ha ha ha, ridiculous!" The last few days I've been on a rented Honda Dream, which is GR8 4 SPOTTIN! Cooking grade Lancers of this shape are all over, but I've never seen one as sheddy as this, so worth sharing. This Publica I think is one I've papped before in the same part of town, but it looks to have had a fresh layer of yellow applied. What looks like a four door Almera is a 'Sunny Super Saloon'. BTW Nissan have just started selling a new saloon labeled 'Almera', but it's not a shape I know, maybe a facelifted four door Tiida. I was well pleased to get this shot: The old boy with his converted Mazda 1000 pick-up is still running the gauntlet with the bigger red taxis around the city. Chiang Mai is famous for them, and the drivers' 'union' is notoriously powerful. All the others are based on Isuzu / Toyota one ton diesels. Oh and yes, he was nodding off! Catch of the Day is this interesting little collection. The gardener saw me peering through the fence, he waved me in for a closer look. Sorry I can't tell you more, we were late for a lunch with friends, so didn't root around. The charabanc was my favourite with its original Thai plates. And that's Mrs KJ trying to be patient. L8RZ!
