Is that a Xedos 9 in the background?

Could well be...take a closer look...

Posted Image

Posted Image

But then again, don't they run 5 stud hubs? That only has 4 studs I think.

And I'm sure I'd have snapped it if it was an X9.

Sorry Reg, I could be wrong, but I reckon it was something more mundane.

Because you liked it so much, here she is again for a new page.

Posted Image

She really did look in good shape. If I'd already made my fortune, I'm sure

she'd have had a little bilingual note under a wiper...

I do hope there are a few such beauties around in a few years' time.

How do I follow that?

Posted Image

I'm sorry it's so modern, but I mentioned before I do like the shape of

these. I think one might make a sensible daily once we're back in Blighty.

I like the frameless doors, and the overall shape has aged well imho.

Weren't they marketed "Practically a Sports Car"? Cool phrase.

I digress. these look like the 323's more virile looking big bro:

Posted Image

And are just as nice I think. Anyone familiar with it?

Posted Image

Mazda Lantis...more interesting to look at than the 626s and Xedossseses.

^ Honda City Type Pink? WTF?!

Remember this...

Posted Image

...with it's queer profile...

Posted Image

...compare to this, the current Honda City (based on the Jazz platform):

Posted Image

The Charade still looks better to me. That ^ looks like a hump-backed

cockroach in all its miss-matched front and back ugliness.

That doesn't stop the Thais buying them, though

This one's just as frumpy, if slightly better balanced:

Posted Image

Nissan Tiida futureshite. I don't know if these are coming to Britain? (This is the hatchback:)

Posted Image

And while we're on with this modern horribleness...

Chevy Aveo

I really shouldn't inflict that on you -sorry-

I'll try and make it up...

^ I know nothing of yank tanks - my American colleague (himself no

great autophile) said it looks like an old Ford.

Apparently, there's a lot more US stuff to the north-east side of Thailand,

closer to the Laotian border where there were a lot of troops stationed.

Posted Image

Posted Image

I got this one as I took a sneaky short-cut through a car park as the rain

was starting.

I'm sorry for the poor picture quality on this one, but it needs to be

"Catch of the Day" as I've never knowingly seen a Simca before:

1501 with the infamous Corolla back lights. Like a contagious rash, they are.

Agreed, that Lantis is quite nice though a bit heavy/long about the rear quarters. Are they based on a 626, and was there an earlier version? Sure I’ve seen something about them, started life as a Eunos?Isn’t the old Ford a Galaxie?Talk of the Laotian border reminds me of King of the Hill, I’m sure Bobby’s grandfather went on about it.

Re- that BMW pic...^^

That's a Honda City next door, there's a few trucks, a Stanza,

and this...

...is a 323 saloon. Plenty about, the blander brother of this?

The same generation I think, but the noses are different.

Agreed, that Lantis is quite nice though a bit heavy/long about the rear quarters.

SL: I must say I do quite like the heavy back end look... this 323,

the Lantis, that yellow Elan, and I'll admit it now (we're all friends here)

the Fiat Bravo (3dr)

That simca thing does look amazingly like a Volga. You can get those simca 1301/1501's for presque rien du tout on French ebay, i wonder what theyre like to own? They look totally uninteresting to me, but I imagine they are light enough with peppy engines, and rwd (so probably a decent gearshift) and nice suspension, sounds like a good package. GR8 4 DRIFTIN.You ever had one mr Bickle?

Mr Bollox -nope, never had one. Only Simca I've ever owned -still got (here actually -mid rebuild) is a 1960 Aronde Estate (called a Break).Dried stored by a gruff Parisien for 20years following a small accident in 67. One side done, one to do, exhaust and brakes and its MOT ready.I kinda think I'm up to my limit -maritally -at the moment -but give it a few weeks -if you've one in mind?

looks more like a volga to me...

I can see what you mean...decide for yourselves...

A real Simca 1501:

Posted Image

...my Spot:

Posted Image

...a Volga 31029:

Posted Image

^ compare the door handles/bottom of the back screen/C-pillars.

That grey Volga shows more than a passing resemblence to this...

Posted Image

...but seems to share back lights with this...

Posted Image

Hey, RegieRimto! Who copied who with them lights? Renner or Italdesign? Look the same to me...

Posted Image

Sorry folks, got carried away whilst googpicking again...

So, this seems to be a Simca, after all:

Posted Image

With lights from this:

Posted Image

Oh no sorry, I mean this:

Posted Image

...or something like that...

etc etc etc...

Ah, one more thing, while I was playing around, I thought it'd be rude not

to share this one with you:

Posted Image

:D

Posted Image

Fiat 125 / Polski Fiat 125 with the front grille and lights of a 90's Isuzu

Well done on the Fiat...

Posted Image

...Hey! ^ That reminds me of...

Posted Image

...but upside-down and sawn-off!

Hold up - let's not start again.

This is a 90s Isuzu:

Posted Image

...and it ain't no match. How about this:

Posted Image

Posted Image

That's more like it. Lights, grille and bumper from a Nissan pickup.

And wheels from a BMW E30...

Enough already!

Remember this:

Posted Image

Well I still haven't go a better angle on a Peugeot, but I mentioned this

crew-cab Mitsubishi before:

Posted Image

I chased this through town for about 10 mins today, camers in left hand, trying to get a good

angle on the move...

Posted Image

Posted Image

It has a government ministry crest on the door, and they'll have run it

from new, so it must be a factory model, not a lash-up.

I reckon it's far more shitetastic than yer regular ten-a-penny crew-cabs,

so it'll do nicely as "Catch of the Day".

G'night. Long day with the family tomorrow - parents in town.

Heads up!

Posted Image

Speak of the devil... I got the bugger!

Posted Image

Posted Image

It does look real to me, and a rather useful piece of shite, I'd say. But the

financial adviser said "Its ugly", so that'll be that then.

Looks different to this one I found earlier:

Posted Image

This white one ^ looks more like a conversion from a "Break"... did

another search and found this:

Posted Image

...which came with a caption in French, confirming my suspicions.

Posted Image

The Gruau conversions were based on the 505, but this yellow one is a

504, just like the regular pick-ups. (Different door handles etc.)

Another clue showing its real is the 5 stud wheels - 504 saloons and

estates has 4 studs:

Posted Image

This one I followed on the way to school, one soggy tyre, broken spring and smoking like

a good un...

Posted Image

Superb.

And another re-spot:

Posted Image

Badged "Lotus" after all, not Kia.

We've had a busy long weekend with the folks, but still had time to stop

for a few spots...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

^ Camira saloon, the first I've seen.

Hey, MrRegie... Guess the back lights:

Posted Image

And for this one, Mitsubishi borrowed from Fiat and Mercedes:

Posted Image

Posted Image

^ Corsa Swing

Posted Image

Posted Image

:shock::shock:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Michiel, Ratdat Cock-on - well done.

While browsing online pics for Crowns, I found this "characterful" wagon:

Posted Image

Ugly but well cool. Shame it's at the breakers.

French forums seem to have loads of awesome tat pics. That was from

http://www.forum-auto.com. A huge site...

Nice one Volksy. You got in there while Regie was away:

Posted Image

I find these weird transplants rather entertaining...:D

Thanks for these, MrRegie:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

It's great to have you back... you were missed indeed! Looks like you've

been putting some time in making up this weekend.

(Loving that sleety Volvo snap, by the way.)

I'd never noticed the 340 and 127 were in the same club before, but I

think you missed one:

Posted Image

...and...

Posted Image

...along with all it may or may not be related to...or are we not going there again? :D

(Nicked that picture from SL's museum collection.)

Hey, 500tops !!!

Got one!

Posted Image

LHD but on Chiang Mai plates...

Posted Image

It's the only one I've seen here. My guess is it was driven overland on a

garlic-fueled adventure and retired here. I'm jealous of the journey I

imagine it had.

I finally got round to stopping for this one today. I often pass it with the Mrs:

Posted Image

Same with this one - the only Lada I've seen about.

Posted Image

The chaps in this place were more than happy for me to go in and have a

look around:

Posted Image

They obviously enjoy some unusual tat...

Posted Image

A Falcon from Australia?

They complained it's to big, taking up a lot of space:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Those flared arches, and lights don't look right...

Posted Image

Poor Publica.

Stacklight Benz:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Maybe a controversial "Catch of the Day" -a bit too scene-

but for rarity, and shite value, this helped persuade me:

Posted Image

Oh, and a teaser...

Posted Image

Any ideas what this jap-looking dash is in?

The steering wheel is from a March (Micra) so ignore that.

Think exactly the opposite kind of car and you might be right...

(Clue: pillarless saloon 8) )

KruJoe you've found me out - hit the nail right on the head. You've let the cat right out of the bag of why the R14 is my fondest Renault & the Ital my fondest BL tat! From the back they look the same (if you squint & look 'square on') although I think the R14 is more interesting looking as an overall car, I always dug the Ital because of it's rear lights & after years I finally twigged why......because it reminded me of the R14 (this was as an impressionable kid). TBH I assumed the rear lights were actually shared but it seems not as the R14 is better endowed with reversing lights. The Peugeot 305 saloon has lights in basically the same design too. Also the Audi 100 / 200 C2 (MkII) saloon & Avant, the Audi 80 B2 (MkII) saloon. Oh and of course the Renault 20 /30 but not wrap around. You could also say the MkII Granada pre facelift too.

The R14 must have beaten Ital design unless they dragged their feet because the R14 lived from 1976-1982 whereas the Ital had it's time between 1980-1984.

Regie: Thanks so much for that link to Torsen's Domino thread, I had been trying to find it.

I remember enjoying it, but I wasn't signed up in time to join in. I resisted bumping it up for my own fun. But...

This great one from Michiel is the same shape as the most common shape here:

Posted Image

The Thai's would love that! Well Cool.

Remember I spotted one of these way back?

Posted Image

I spoke to the owner of this freshly imported one. She said that one's a

4x4 turbo like Hirst's (this isn't but looks identical). Seems they draw a crowd wherever they go.

Posted Image

Finally caught this one on the move, recently:

Posted Image

All the UK ones were silver with silly extra lights, but I think that's a real

Avanzato. It might be a 2wd one.

Remember this from Hirst?

Posted Image

to me, rather than anything Talbot related, those lamps look much more like this:

Posted Image

or this:

Posted Image

These Corolla Coupes are confusign me. Is this one real, or made too look like one?

(Sorry I couldn't get to the front.)

Posted Image

It looks pillarless, but it's not one of these:

Posted Image

Nor one of these:

Posted Image

And this is different again:

Posted Image

:? Now I'm really confused. The two red and one silver all look the same age to me :?

Anyhow, who mentioned this?

Posted Image

Those lights look more like these to me:

Posted Image

And this "Domino" is one of those horrible Zap electric things, right?

Posted Image

Were those doors off a Dacia Logan, after all?

Whatever, all this fun was inspired by this baby's thread:

Posted Image

Is life still sweet with her, Torsen? She looks a beaut!

Back to this:

Posted Image

I've been looking out for a clean one of these for a while. They look so

much cleaner and more honest with those smaller back lights.

The best I got before was this stack of crap:

Posted Image

Posted Image

Truly nasty.

As was this, I thought:

Posted Image

Caddy Grand Ville? Sorry if you like it... I'm not really a fan.

Posted Image

And this one, by the way...

Posted Image

Was the inside of this, a Chevy Corvair(?)

Posted Image

Fresh filler all round the windows :?

Regie: still got my eyes peeled for a Xedos... but perhaps one better:

Posted Image

A 929 - even bigger and all RWD V6s, according to Wiki.

Posted Image

We never got them in Blighty, did we?

I'm still loving these:

Posted Image

I was just turning round to go back for this...

http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff159/KruJoe/Thai%20Shite%2010400/P1040326.jpg

Krujoe, I think the mystery red Corolla coupe is the same as the standard brown one immediately below it. Both are the model which preceded this one:

Posted Image

I think the non-standard wraparound bumpers confuse matters. This later red one looks like it has Hayashi Street Fins on it? Hirst will be able to confirm.

I love the super-smooth styling the Japanese were doing at this time, and the bigger the cars get the more elegant they look with it.

Lovely.

Thanks SL.

Another angle for you:

Posted Image

Smoooth.

So these two are the same?!

Posted Image

Posted Image

But aren't the boot lids different?... look at the back edge ... and the brown one has more of a kink across the top:

Posted Image

Posted Image

S'pose the metalwork does look the same. They've gone and lost those

big vents in the back wings, along with a lot of the car's character imho.

You know I'm one of those back light fetishists...
