It is presumably an unwritten requirement of being a forum member here that everyone possess those Phaidon "Boring Postcard" books? Pretty much every card in them features some Shite, if there's anyone not seen them I'll scan in a few choice extracts.

In the meantime here's one I've found in my collection....

I was born in, grew up near to and first worked in Sudbury, Suffolk (in an office just on the RH side of this view). Photographer fortunately didn't go for the predictable hustle and bustle of Market Day, but waited for a Chrysler 180/2-litre AND a Corsair to be at the forefront of this shot.

Nice pic isn't it? I'll have a look at the original tonight and see if you're right Mr Pog. Certainly yes on the Landcrab, and there's another Cortina Mk4 plus a Triumph 2000/2500 in the distance on the right. The young Spottedlaurel got dragged around here every Saturday in the 70's, and many of my car mag's were bought in Martin's in the blue building on the right. Some kind of filter on it I think, because the maroon cars are freakishly emphasised. My office used to look down on this, wish I'd taken a few pic's myself when I was there 1986-89. I remember a very clean '75 140J, and also the black Manta 'A' I bought a few years later.Got another pic of this scene at home somewhere. Also, there was a wonderful huge B&W shot of it from the 60's in the Clarks shoe shop just down the road, is that still there?Baz, nice coincidence. I'm only a few miles outside Norwich, fancy an Autoshite meet-up? Obviously it should be somewhere with some spotting potential, like car park of Morrisson or similar.....

I sincerely hope that you protested heartily every time you were dragged round there. At least until you were rewarded with a 'Matchbox Superfast'.Or was that just me?

Probably not too much protesting - would you when there was this top quality stuff to look out for? And a trip to Fine Fare to look forward to?

You're right with the 16, think there's also a Maxi behind the Landcrab and red estate behind the HC Viva is possibly a Cortina MkII? Sadly all a bit fuzzy further back.

Can't claim to have ever visited this place as it's in Oz, apparently the Pialba Shopping Centre in Hervey Bay, Queensland.

In amongst the domestic stuff there's an 1100/1300, early Victor, VW Type 3 and a Bedford TK. And a rather large tree.

Hey S.L....This is spooky....You used to Shop in Fine Fare too? Who knows, maybe we even bashed trolleys once or twice?? :D

Martins is, of course, on the left of the pic, a few doors up from Tooks the Baker (where the pie obsession that turned me into the magnificent specimen that I am today probably began)....And I seem to recall that what is now WH Smith at the bottom of North St (just round the corner) was also a Martins aswell!

Next door to Martins in North St. was Alstons....The toy shop with the world's finest selection of Corgis & Dinkys all on display in cases!

Our Fiat 850 Special caught fire on Market Hill...Right in front of the Friday night burger van!

An East Anglian Shite gathering is a great idea....As soon as I have some Shite of my own to bring along (my Volvo S40 doesn't qualify :( ) we'll arrange summat!

Left, right, whatever

Alstons came to mind when Pogweasel mentioned Matchbox Superfast. I also remember that shop as being truly wonderful, and loved the cases where you had to look at the whole of the range then ask the assistant for it. None of your bubble card self-serve nonsense.

Can't imagine my kids having the same memories of Toys-R-Us  although I'm doing my best not to give them the opportunity.

I know it's an old thread to resurrect but I've been sifting through a load of old postcards and photos recently. I used to pick up the cards cheaply at fairs though some of the better ones were a fair bit more and I've got loads with street scenes - I kind of got addicted at one stage!

Here's a few to whet the appetite:

Hull in the 1970s, Avenger, early 99, smart Wedge and a 610 Datsun coupe
Posted Image
Is it just coincidence that the photographer got thes two UK 1100s here??
Posted Image
The Lygon Arms in Broadway with 70s shite
Posted Image
And the same place a little earlier - fine British machinery
Posted Image
Wow a K70
Posted Image
Lots of typical early 60s stuff. The number on the Mini is now on a Honda according to RAC...
Posted Image
HB Viva the most modern here I think

A lovely shot - the Sceptre expired in its 20th year

Late 60s in Llandudno

Decisions, decisions. The 2dr Rekord in the foreign pic, or the 180B SSS in the first one? That Hull one contains a brilliant range of stuff, what's the mustard saloon the other side of the beige Cortina (MkIV?) estate?K70 and Marina TC in another one!

I'm going to stick my neck out and say Datsun 1200. In fact there was one the same colour running about here for a while not too long ago but it seems to have disappeared now. Wonder if it was the same one  Coincidentally I last saw it in the waiting area under the station offices in the pic... Just noticed - is that a Renault 8 on the left in the Llandudno pic???

One for Mr. Bickle at the back here! Love the Victor and the 6/80 looks tidy in its 10th year at least

Nice 50s shot with a Mayflower defining shite from that decade! Beetle shows an early European interloper, wonder if the man in the mac was shunned at the country club for buying a German car so soon!!??

One from my home town of Beverley. Scarily this postcard was bought from a newsagents only a couple of years ago though unfortunately the car park is not usually filled with late 60s estates now!

That post card of Sligo brings back some seriously happy memories of my youthfull holidays, the Post Office is the building at the end and on the left heading down to the PO was a shop called Wood & Iron, it sold everything other than food and its selection of Dinky toys and the thrill of getting one from there was heart attack exciting! I got a Dinky VW Beetle in blue, a Jensen FF, a Corgi Austin Cambridge and one year a Matchbox MG 1100 as well! Thanks for that picture, made me reallllly happy! Wood & Iron is of course now Tesco!

Ah, the blue and white buses of 'Kingston upon Hull City Transport'. And then you had the red and white ones of 'National - East Yorkshire'. Like everywhere else it's fuggin Stagecoach now.The ABC Cinema in the background is gone now. Those tourist 1100s made me smile as I remember the effort my Dad used to go to painting the lights on his SD1 and Ovlov 244 when we used to go to France - All part of the holiday build up excitement - well for me anyway :D . Yep, been a big ole development around the station this year. The original Victorian architecture of the station that is exposed once more is much better but it still looks a bit bland to me. :? I think I did get the card from there, they had another with what looks like exactly the same blue Hunter coming through North Bar (a historic archway in the town which meant the buses had to have specially made roofs) but I can't find it.

Blue one is a Hillman Hunter, silver is a Mk2 Cortina. Easy mistake to make since they are very similar in appearance in estate form. Both introduced late 1966/early 1967.
