I would regail you with my spots from June, but they're all locked away in my imploded PC so you'll have to make do with this meagre selection from the July Retro Rides meet.  If modified cars are your bag, you can see the whole folder here: http://s845.photobucket.com/user/volksangyl/library/RR-2013-07  If not, read on.

This moggy is a regular and is usually the oldest car in attendance.  At regular classic shows I'd dismiss it as boring, but at the RR meet it has a charm and appeal to it that would otherwise be lost.  Puts it all in perspective or something.

This Corsa is pretty much stock looking at it but has had racing stripes painted on and the hubcaps painted white.  I actually liked it, even though it's a Corsa with racing stripes, so there's clearly something wrong with me.

20130701-11_zps2465aae4.jpg

That beautiful Manta was there again.

20130701-16_zps82d9bd42.jpg

Probably not shite, but it has headlight wipers and it's a Sierra so I think it qualifies enough to be here.  It was very nice to look at, regardless.

20130701-17_zpsc50c34b8.jpg

This I'm putting in the selection because it looks fairly original and unmessed with.  They don't seem to command the silly coin of other Escorts of the era which I've always found a bit surprising.

They do look a bit weird in profile.

20130701-28_zpsd07ec371.jpg

This is from a different Ford that was there, I think it turned out rather well as a picture.

It's Mrs Tonka's Shuttle again, one of the finest cars at the show, obviously.

We put a tiny man in the Princess, it was more hilarious than this picture shows.  Initially I was stood an extra car length away but you couldn't see the tiny man because the steering wheel was in the way.

Speaking of the Princess, gratuitous nearly-sunset shot of the old boat.

Skodalicious.

Came with the Mini again.

20130701-57_zps644b9fa1.jpg

The wide track is all down to what's under the bonnet, you'll note how the hubs aren't even trying to be inside the bodywork.  That's because there's a 1.4 K series under the bonnet, I forgot to ask what it had been lifted out of, but I suspect it was probably a Rover bubble.

20130701-58_zps45964848.jpg

Hello old friend.

20130701-62_zps796bbc38.jpg

Phwoar, &c.  Another mostly unloved Ford, probably because the rear end always looks a little bit like someone has crashed into it, a theme revived with the saloon Focus.

20130701-67_zpsf996e343.jpg

Cheeky up-valance shot to finish off... shame you can't really see any leaf spring action but I reckon it's an awesome picture anyway.

I was going to put this update in the Lazy Spotters thread because I'd lost track of this one, but now I've found it again they can go in here.  I'm considering setting up a dedicated Flickr or something to keep my spots in a fresh gallery and make a concerted effort to declutter my Photobucket account.  I probably won't end up being arsed enough to do this, but it makes me feel better declaring my intention to do something productive.

Anyway, spots.  I had to figure out where I'd got up to before I could start but here we go, I'm a bit behind on this lot.  I have this feeling I'm repeating what I'm starting with, but that's no bother if I am because there's some worthy content.

First up, some Mini and Mini Marcos action.

Then what has to be one of my favourite moments of the year, finding and parking next to a similarly patchwork Maxi to the Princess.  This was an ace day.  I got my suspension pumped up shortly after taking this and let the Maxi guy know about the local garage that was doing it as the Maxi was his daily and had replaced another Maxi, if memory serves.  He just saw the Maxi as an old car and was keeping it going 90s style.  Obviously I gave him our address, but I don't think he chased it up.

At said garage is this brilliant Michelin guide to tyre sizes and pressures for pretty much everything late 80s to mid 90s.

201306-08.jpg.7167a58bf15f79f0aae457fe6c7d8363.jpg

This Suzuki Swift had appeared too.

201306-09.jpg.718bebc93e7a3ed93b1c820e455b65dc.jpg

Probably the strangest spot I've made was this apparently road legal mobility scooter.  Old people are very strange, sometimes.

I didn't believe my brain when it told me this was a Proton Saga, mostly because of the Saga bit, but Google confirms my brain was correct.

201306-11.jpg.5e40968de7f2d7abaa217322e5b15838.jpg

It's a Reliant, but do you know which one?  Surprising number of these still bimbling about in my neck of the woods and not all of them are piloted by tweed hatted giffers.  This one was piloted by a Sid who was accompanied by a Doris.

201306-12.jpg.a180f38a85d22fbdb12b63fc50508c73.jpg

An immortal Peugeot.  These things never seem to die, or look any different, they just keep on keeping on.  I'd really like to own one some day.

The day we met Krujoe.  This was also the day I learned how an A-frame is fitted, which is an important part of any Autoshiter's education.

Now for the September update which brings us nicely up to speed.  Not had any spots yet in October but there's plenty of time for that to happen.

This is a Reliant, but can you tell which one?  Looked ridiculous, sounded even more ridiculous, what possesses these people?  We're in Deatons scrapyard here, if you're wondering.  For some reason I didn't take a picture of the Rover 45 saloon that parked next to me.

201309-01.jpg.39f3cfdb6c2d9ee0f379bc4898c22cfd.jpg

I think this might be a picture of the white Proton Wira hatchback, I can't think what else it was.  I've kept it in the spotted folder for some reason.

201309-02.jpg.ff4fbbff991faf067e022ab7f44ec2eb.jpg

Hyundai Accent (I think) in that strange purple-ish colour.

201309-03.jpg.bda2cfb6313ad528fb36c0af4348abfc.jpg

It's a 57 plate but looks like it was lifted directly from the mid-nineties.  I'm blaming the Taz wheel cover.

201309-04.thumb.jpg.f57555563fc626c6710ed2e2bf902911.jpg

Disco and a Rav4, getting ready for OMGSNOKAOS.  I reckon there might a CityRover there too.  Who on earth puts a cherished plate on a Vauxhall Agila too?

201309-05.jpg.7081f07045b2f2a501dd63269304ba6e.jpg

Volvo 240 estate and a Subaru Forester outside the now shut down Co-operative Department Store that's been there for longer than I've been on the planet.

201306-01_zps1a3b181c.jpg

Rather a Midas Gold than a Marcos. Next to it is a GTM Libra. I know kit cars are often not the most popular of things round here but the Libra/Spyder is on my list of random cars I'd quite like to own one day.

As an aside, I love that patchwork Maxi.

Kit cars are interesting to me but not my area of expertise.  I should've know it was a Midas because the garage has another one with Astra rear lights that I was talking to him about which is a Midas Cortez, I think.  Didn't get a picture of that at the time, I should ask if he'd be okay with me doing so.

That Suzuki Swift is a Daihatsu Charade.

Some cracking stuff there. I love the Maxi.

Also, Deatons is a decent yard. I went there with jikovron where we proceeded to rape a mk1 Orion.

Maybe I am more of a shiter than I realise, as I spotted a mk3 Capri long before the actual tank beneath it.

I do believe the hype, I checked it on DVLA and it is indeed a Daihatsu and not a Suzuki.  At least I got the Maxi correctly identified.

I meant cos it has five doors. It's still a Charade, just not a GTti.

Fair play to the bloke, but I reckon keeping a Maxi going would cost more than some 90's Jap motor.

  • 1 month later...

It is the end of November and I am unlikely to spot anything else today, so here are this month's haul.  Not included are the white Fiat Panda that bumbled past me up Bolsover hill and the big 60s American something that I saw parked up when on my way back from collecting an interior yesterday.

Finally it has happened to me... that is to say, this Skoda was stationary for long enough while I had a camera to hand for me to take a picture.  I saw it again today parked up in Morrisons but typically I didn't have a camera with me then.

Coarser just poking into the shot with a Volvo I failed utterly to get a decent shot of.

This Kia Magentis is my last November 2013 spot, seems fitting to end the monthly update here.

To kick off my final 2013 update, here's a Peugeot that looks like a 405, but bigger, the much rarer 605.  I'm sure I've seen this one before in the same location so it's probably a local car.  EDIT: I did spot another 604 earlier in the year but it was graphite rather than silver, so that's a remarkable TWO Bigpugs spotted this year.

201312-01.jpg.e3ab4e544dd2e28639fe11d59996f4b4.jpg

Worthless, prone to chronic rot and with very little following as of yet, these Ford Escorts have a certain underdog appeal at the moment to me.  Not that I'd want to own one myself, but I like to see them still knocking about.

201312-02.jpg.87ef842c50c7ac83000593f0e6e31730.jpg

On the day of the OMGHGF in the Princess, while waiting for the AA, this gold Golf with brown interior was spotted.  I'm not normally one for snapping pictures of Golfs, but this one was delightfully free of dubmongery.  It still sported the rarely seen wheel trims and hub caps.

201312-03.jpg.aa880f740fb56d93eeb549ccc5201608.jpg

201312-04.jpg.58c0578846c540f26a1ca2da598b0e85.jpg

On the same day there was also spotted this Daewoo Lanos in appliance white with unpainted bumpers.  Truly remarkable and destined to be forgotten.

201312-05.jpg.6fb6c792bc82c482bb0ace22d89e4846.jpg

The same fate likely awaits this patchwork Starlet which I got far too excited about.

201312-06.jpg.abe4185e62cda0602634a6a9eecee2bc.jpg

Now, you'll have to take my word for what this last one is, but I can assure you it was a mid-90s Cadillac Deville.  Weirdly, it didn't look massive next to all the European cars and only looked particularly American from the back with the slim upright tail lights.

I wonder what wheeled detritus 2014 has lined up for me to point my camera at?

I was going back through my 2013 Spotted folder and realised there was an ENTIRE MONTH I'd forgotten to upload.

So here we go with BONUS JULY SHOTS.  Aren't you lucky people?  I spoil you, I know.

From the day I got a parking ticket at the hospital there was this Sierra Sapphire, suitably coloured for its namesake.

201307-01.jpg.921e3d3585ab01a6607148d59c3b09c9.jpg

It's not the Ford Ka I was focusing on here but the ridiculous drainpipe sticking out from the Puglet.

201307-03.jpg.5bb827c4a2e3d09a5172132e00689959.jpg

Took me a moment to figure out what I'd photographed here, then I spotted the bright red Alfa 164 that belongs to a local funeral parlour.  They also have a bright red Ferrari Testarossa.  I don't think they use them to visit grieving families, but perhaps the sight would cheer them up?

201307-05.jpg.cdb67318a4c7cb192bafc27598c58171.jpg

Primera and a Citroen Slugbug.

201307-06.jpg.dfc88174cb12c1a2a94984e75d5b76b8.jpg

Honda bikeshite.  Why did gold wheels go out of fashion?  This looks superb.

201307-07.jpg.04d7605c169eb1beb8d88e605da12614.jpg

This is the finest Mondeo of 2013.

201307-08.jpg.c9e3f1f6f17d78ca199927efbce490f4.jpg

Mike and I were in his Honda Prelude for some reason, I forget why, and we were playing tag with this black Capri.  It was fun while it lasted.  I'm rubbish at photographs at any speed.

201307-09.jpg.81992ff5fe9b27ee7ca69b276d3ec987.jpg

201307-10.jpg.3310a82b65f7b5bac936f1de635e5aa1.jpg

I am glad I found this forgotten selection though, because it includes my personal Picture of 2013.  A Disco A-framing a Sherpa campervan.  At the time, I don't think I even twigged it was being A-framed so this was a super special bonus delight when I found it.
