I did take some pictures of stuff that was properly on display too, rather than sneaking shots of stuff behind the stalls.

The Princess had so many favourable comments I was astonished. When everyone opened their bonnets to show off sparkling engines, I had to open mine to show off the less-than-sparkling bay and propped it open with my walking cane... happily, lots of people saw the funny side, but I failed to get a picture because my camera had a hissy fit.

It has been a good day for spottings today. Sadly, the batteries on the emergency camera we had died before we could get a shot of the 'harlequin' Acadienne, and I couldn't stop to get a snap of the gold Bedford CF dayvan but here's some of the other lovelies we got about the place today.

Sat outside the Cooperative Department Store in Chesterfield was this delightfully cherished Herald in a colour split I'd not seen applied before to one of these.

In the Magic Roundabout car park, directly opposite where we parked, was this triffic BX.

201208-03.jpg.08d36da994cdea5d6bb75f833437fa2f.jpg

As well as this excellent Mk2 Transit Ambucamper. I'm not so hot on the numberplates, but I suspect the one this sported was a Jersey plate; 3 letters followed by 4 numbers.

201208-05.jpg.202546b3afd6aa81d164c219cf3eb4aa.jpg

But I've saved possibly the best till last. We were about to head in to Autosupplies to get some more bits for the Trump when this SPARTAN pulled in to the Nature Reserve car park. This is the first time I've seen one of these in the wild.

It's been a while since I made it to a RR meet, so finding out my brother could get everything legal and ready on his Skoda Felicia (bit of a rush, but we managed it) and a friend of mine needed help with moving some stuff, we trundled over to see what was what.

The meet feels a bit top heavy with the new stuff but it's probably more 50/50 split between retro and modern. It feels modern oriented because they're parked in the most prominent area of the car park and make the most noise, particularly this meet with the stereos that set off car alarms and the popping exhausts. I find I tend to leave by 9pm and just leave them to it, but certainly the atmosphere of the meet feels like it's approaching more of a cruise than the quiet, family-friendly atmosphere it used to have.

I don't mind the modern stuff, some of it actually has some great ideas for poaching and some of it is well put together, it's more the behaviour that goes along with some of the owners (retro/classic owners aren't immune to this themselves). The meet has become quite large, so this sort of diversity of people and cars is to be expected, but it's sad to hear that the presence of modern cars and their exuberant owners is keeping some of the regular classic and retro owners away from the meet. Easy solution is to split the parking into post- and pre-2000 so you can focus on what you like, it's not like the venue is short on space for it.

On to the pictures, at any rate. We'll start with what ended up getting called 'The Naughty Corner', though I can't remember why. A little bit of BL solidarity in the form of a Montego, a very nice sounding Marina TC 1.8 on banded steels and of course my very own beige barge.

20120903-01.jpg

20120903-02.jpg

20120903-03.jpg

The Marina drew a crowd and photographers from the moment it arrived, and kept that crowd all the while I was there. Quite rightly too, it was spot on and I doubt I could see a thing that needed changing.

20120903-04.jpg

20120903-05.jpg

20120903-06.jpg

A Peugeot club arrived and parked together, sadly most of my pictures of them didn't come out.

20120903-07.jpg

This Honda looked far better in person than these pictures give it credit.

20120903-08.jpg

20120903-09.jpg

20120903-10.jpg

I liked this Polo, it's one of the few Mk2s that make the Pirelli P-slots look right.

20120903-11.jpg

Golf Cabriolets were out in force too, presumably another club. Again, many of my pictures of them just didn't come out.

20120903-12.jpg

20120903-13.jpg

There was another bit of BL wonderment, the kind of car I'd love to own providing someone else was paying for my insurance and fuel.

20120903-14.jpg

20120903-15.jpg

20120903-16.jpg

I suffer from IMHS (Irrational Minilite Hatred Syndrome), so the wheels were a personal let down on this otherwise smart looking Mk1 in an unusual colour.

20120903-17.jpg

There were a lot of cars there tonight. I did get a few overview snaps, but this is the only one that came out.

20120903-18.jpg

This pair of BMWs looked nice, but then they are one of the few BMWs I like.

20120903-19.jpg

Starlet monster.

20120903-20.jpg

Three very different approaches to the same car.

20120903-21.jpg

Met Mk14dr and his land barge. Apparently, he doesn't have a boat license for it because you don't need one on a canal.

20120903-22.jpg

It's a struggle to get the whole thing in one shot. If it were for sale in a London boutique it would be described as 'shabby chic' and cost a billionsquillion pounds.

20120903-23.jpg

20120903-24.jpg

20120903-25.jpg

To finish off, here's something from the other end of the size scale.

20120903-26.jpg

20120903-27.jpg

Genuine Suzuki Alto Works bought off eBay on the strength of the advert and transported to the owner. He'd never seen one before, or even driven it. This last picture shows you how small this awesome little kei car really is.

20120903-28.jpg

Providing all goes smoothly I'll be at the next meet in the Princess, and if I'm really lucky I shall have swapped more beige out for purple.

Hmm, I last updated this thread rather a long time ago. Time to rectify that. We shall start with some choice items from the 10th of January Retro Rides meet.

Opel Manta A. Love these things.

20121001-01.jpg

Transit Cube was there again as well.

20121001-05.jpg

Lada Riva

20121001-06.jpg

Ford Cortina, MkV? Nice, at any rate, and works suprisingly well on those wheels.

20121001-08.jpg

Some old busses.

20121001-21.jpg

These Nissan Cubes are awesome, I don't care what anyone else thinks.

20121001-22.jpg

I told that the noise this makes is Woop Woop.

20121001-27.jpg

The Trump.

20121001-25.jpg

The Nineties called, etc.

20121001-30.jpg

RIP Skoda bus, you were loved even when you shat every mechanical component you could think to shat.

20121001-34.jpg

Started to notice these Audis again, I'm sure they used to be an anonymous everywhere car.

Here's the latest update on the picture front. I have spotted a few more cars about the place when I've been without my camera so I need to be more dilligent with my spottings. In the meantime, here's some hot* automotive action from the 3rd of December Retro Rides Meadowhall meet.

Stunnah! The owner said it wasn't worth photographing, I disagreed.

20121203-24.jpg

Almost turned out to be a good photograph.

20121203-21.jpg

The lady who owns this is a woman of class. We all told her so, and she agreed.

20121203-20.jpg

Superb Fiesta with graphics intact. Amusingly, none of us had noticed the bottom half is just primer until the owner pointed it out. We all thought it looked great and that the graphics had to remain.

20121203-19.jpg

20121203-18.jpg

The Fast Brown Car Club (not their official title, not actually a club) were in attendance. These guys are all winnahs.

20121203-05.jpg

20121203-04.jpg

20121203-02.jpg

20121203-03.jpg

20121203-01.jpg

Until next time...

20121203-25.jpg

Oh, and before I forget, there's now 4 Reliant Rialtos in my neck of the woods I need to photograph, all in daily use, all seemingly owned by grumpy giffers in dubious hats.

Let's play a game. I reckon I spotted some Shiteists at Brooklands yesterday, stick your hand up if you recognise any of the following.

Orange Allegro is one that I know is a Shitist, I have proof and everything.

20130310-056_zps78667d23.jpg

20130310-058_zps87f2bcd7.jpg

20130310-057_zpsa9f74864.jpg

Possible candidate, if for no other reason than it had a bed made up in the back.

20130310-007_zps472be647.jpg

20130310-006_zpsdb940378.jpg

A bit clean, perhaps, for our usual fare but something about it felt Shitey.

20130310-004_zps623ed1e5.jpg

BARJ

20130310-005_zps263fd32b.jpg

Any number of the following are candidates.

20130310-009_zps83133353.jpg

20130310-008_zpse218bb5f.jpg

This Rover looked VERY familiar.

20130310-002_zps676d46e7.jpg

As a bonus, I spotted this Starlight edition Mk2 Vauxhall Astra in a nearby Tesco on the way home. I was so shocked I had to get my camera out and take photographs.

Been saving up my spots from April with a view to posting them today, which is what I shall do now. I seem to be the victim of sod's law lately as every time I see something spot-worthy it has gone when I go back to find it or I never see it again. How annoying.

We'll kick things off with this Espace, complete with missing wheel trims, scuffed bumpers, dented panels and parcel tape holding the driver's window up. Superlative.

201204-01.thumb.jpg.b254e08903e53e82690c97ded9036742.jpg

In the same car park when I returned to the BX, I found I'd parked on average shite row.

201204-02.jpg.117a95c8411128287c32fa2354e03e1d.jpg

The rescue mission undertaken in Dad's Omega netted me this Mk1 Mondeo hatchback in remarkably good order.

201204-03.jpg.bf002eeb4c4776713cf66358e4c095e9.jpg

And on a mission to purchase LHM and a number plate for an old Honda, this gorgeous old thing purred into the parking lot. No opportunity to get a really good picture, sadly, and not really shite but it is the sort of thing I was considering purchasing before finding the Princess I've ended up with. One day I'll at least get to drive one of these.

201204-04.jpg.e8fc53f8b28a555f2aee2e03a5b07468.jpg

At the Doctor's there was this Renault. I wasn't sure whether it was spot-worthy or not, but I realised that it's been a long time since I saw one on the road so it's probably justifiable. They have one of the best rear light set ups ever, too.

201204-05.jpg.f3e88e715037afc08d293e623d06f819.jpg

I may have saved the best/worst until last with this example of a Mk1 Fiesta equipped with wheels that show just how tiny the rear drums are and an exhaust that must be purely for show and noise.

201204-06.jpg.5be901e6a5e66cbed15c7b1fc1830aec.jpg

Here's hoping May gives me more things to photograph.

The new RR venue brought out some quality tin, and some quality chod. Just about anyone is welcome, I think the meet thrives best on diversity. We had just about everything you could ask for from performance Fords to modified VWs to old Vauxhalls and all the way to a LANCIA DEDRA. That last bit got me very excited, and just when I didn't think I could get more excited a Datsun 120Y turned up... more on that later.

20130506-10_zpsbb9a1bc5.jpg

Primera shite.

20130506-14_zps3c2551e7.jpg

Captain Slow shite.

20130506-17_zps14e517a4.jpg

So good it gets more than one shot. DEDRA.

20130506-18_zps6ec48250.jpg

20130506-20_zps230e21a3.jpg

20130506-21_zpsfb46e69f.jpg

Beautiful Manta, probably not shite.

20130506-23_zpsf0bc92b7.jpg

20130506-25_zps0365a679.jpg

Your guess is as good as mine on this Rover, but it was awesome, one hundred fifty percent.

20130506-44_zpsbad66f8f.jpg

20130506-45_zps9162cd8d.jpg

Flip paint and staggered Venoms on this Golf put it firmly in modified-shite territory. The Scirocco is shite-worthy straight from the factory.

20130506-38_zps6bfd0dc4.jpg

THERE WILL BE MOAR.

Mk1 Polo, it was experiencing what is very likely a split carb rubber seat but was otherwise rather special. Owner was another really nice person to meet too, there was a lot of that tonight.

Dad wagon.

20130506-58_zpsb00ed67c.jpg

Wave two arrived just as we were preparing to leave, it was a very pleasant surprise. A convoy of about 20 cars of all sorts and shapes all from the same group who, as it turned out, were really enthusiastic about their cars and cars in general. These were precisely the sort of folk we want at the new venue because their enthusiasm for the hobby was infectious, everything from modifying to maintenance to cleaning was up for discussion and all of it was good. Not much shite, the only possible contenders being the Mk4 Astra van and the Suzuki Swift AWD. I'm happy for them to turn up again, they're a good fit alongside wave one. Apologies for the crappy picture quality, my tripod was at home and the batteries in my camera were nearly dead.

20130506-81_zps677388a9.jpg

This was hiding under the bonnet of a fairly unassuming and slightly tatty gold Mk3 Astra hatchback. Astonishing!

20130506-83_zps8e6b0706.jpg

So there you go. All in all it was actually a very good meet, the best I've been to in a very, very long time and felt much more back to how it was a few years ago. People behaved and had fun, exchanged details and opened many bonnets, sat in many different seats. It felt like a car park full of enthusiasts and that's exactly how it ought to be. To sign off, an open invite to any Autoshiters to attend is made for the next meet on the 3rd of June.

I got to meet Walk too, top bloke as is to be expected of an Autoshiter of exquisite and refined taste. I very nearly had a gentleman's moment when the Dedra pulled into the car park, it looks like it has just emerged freshly formed from the early 90s, it is a thing deserving of admiration. Just about wet myself with excitement when the 120Y turned up shortly after the Dedra.

It's the end of another month so it's time for another spots update. Bit of a mixed bag this time, and proof that I am unable to take photographs while moving. How on earth do some of you take photographs of other cars while driving? You will see why I don't with the following, it would just end up being a blurry multi-coloured mess and then an accident.

This seemed like a very late reg for a Pickarsehole of this shape.

201305-01.thumb.jpg.6881c62e40011f5db5d0c769ea510977.jpg

One for FredTransit here: the wobbliest wobbly camper I've ever seen braving the roads on the inside lane there. There wasn't much of a side wind, but the driver looked like he was having a right battle with it.

201305-02.jpg.fff0621ed8d2f7815e8cfcee79ff6ba9.jpg

201305-03.jpg.22963198b7578be6be51eb119e28bbd2.jpg

On the way out of the cinema after seeing the new Star Trek film - quite good, but I could've done without the 3D - spotted this little pair. The friends we were with didn't quite get the mentality, though did admit the Mercedes was very nice. In fact, they struggled to comprehend why I was more excited by the Mazda 323 in gold and dents at Tesco (no picture, sorry) than the various Beetles and Minors I saw plenty of.

201305-04.jpg.904bde3943c5ab80291f14c9f1a821df.jpg

Gold Rolls Royce with a brown vinyl roof gliding serenely in the outside lane would not be rushed by anyone. Shame my photograph came out so badly.

201305-05.jpg.6b92d385e7ebf324c33ca8d306c14eaa.jpg

Then, I attempted to photograph a Saab. I was not very good at it.

201305-06.jpg.8bd18f8b6a53ac81ef5de00bd6b73860.jpg

Got a bit better this time.

201305-07.thumb.jpg.46cd539ee31f5d5c36e12d2880105515.jpg

Good, the traffic's stopped. This is as good as you're getting.

201305-09.thumb.jpg.2535d4af286e7532acd87ae8c2e0950d.jpg

I spot these infrequently enough now to feel comfortable sticking it in this thread. I quite like Tigras anyway.

201305-08.jpg.aa1cdae6f86fb1318d6c7db374a4ea2a.jpg

T reg purple/indigo Skoda looked factory fresh. My picture is appalling because we were in a moving car again.

201305-11.jpg.622c7bb057a8ad468fd68f21e783bdec.jpg

Second lane from the left, it's something old.

Yeah... still rubbish at this. It's a Mk1 (or 2? plastic skinny bumpers) Passat estate in bronze-brown-red with a matching coloured interior. If I remember rightly, it was a Y reg, it was definitely a single letter suffix plate and similar vintage to my Princess, that much I do recall.

Polo! G reg, so a later Mk2, and in one of the best colours.

Nope, still can't do moving car pictures.

Stopped at a service station and saw this amazing micro-camper thing based on a Landrover. The owner and the funny three-wheeled walker propped against the van really completed the picture, it also put me off getting any closer.

I'm much better at taking photographs when I'm not moving.

Turned around and a Ford Orion trundled past, that was a surprising coincidence.

Looked up after checking the photograph was passable and saw this bit of Billy fodder in front of me.

Turned around to head off and find where my parents had parked to see this Astra drive past me. Four worthy spots and I didn't move an inch, amazing.

This bugs me about new cars. When did it become acceptable to put this standard of orange peel paint on a new car? If I paid for a new car (which I probably never will) I would demand better, this is appalling. I've seen this finish on a lot of prestige/executive stuff like Mercedes and BMWs too and I don't get it. If Kia can get a decent finish on their cars, why can't the more established marques?

Barbie wagon. Not seen one of these in ages.

Finally, from today, some locals. There's a blue Mk3 Astra estate in addition to these that I need to get a shot of, but it wasn't about when I was out today.

Missed this from last time but that 120Y is a great thing.

Regarding the Xsara Picarsehole, according to Wikipedia (so it must be true) they sold those things in the UK until 2009! I remember the local Arnold Clark still flogging them about that time.

I'm shocked and appalled that Picassos were sold in that shape as late as 2009!

Recently, there was the Retro Rides meet. I seem to be encouraging our sort of car and owner to attend. I see this as no bad thing, so here are some highlights for you.

This little Simca Rallye is an original and quite rare as it's also RHD.

That's a bathroom suite. It's also a sound system. Brilliant.

Czech thing, I think I love you. I want a Skoda for sure!

Pugtastic.

Captain Slow in his shiny Montego. I don't think I was believed when I explained to someone that this car is not a garage queen.

I asked if the owner of this fabulous Volvo was a member of the Autoshite forum... and I then had to explain what Autoshite is without causing offence. Awkward~

Two fabulous late arrivals.

We accidentally an Autoshite row.

That wee Simca looks the dug's danglies, I can't remember when I last saw one of those.

On the subject of the uncomfortable Volvo/Autoshite moment, at our last Scotoshite meet (pics on the relevant thread) there were quite a few of the VOLVO MASSIV parked up in the car park when some old bloke parked his shiny new Volvo next to them and asked if it was a Volvo club meeting!
