Renault 20 not shite enough for you?

In the very early 1980s, the Renault 20 was also assembled as the Dacia 2000; because of the exclusivity of this model numbers were always very limited. The 2000 was only available in dark blue or black, and was reserved for the Party elite.

Incidentally it appears that the Renault 8 was the dictator's token car industry local produce of choice being produced the the Bulgarrenault, the Dacia 1100 and in Spain... GR9 4 FACISTS 'N COMMIES.

My understanding of the Dacia 2000 was that it was much like the large Volgas. They were cars for party officials and those that would make sure that you were being a true communist and if you weren't would take you away to "reform" you. Seeing as they were produced in small numbers anyhow, by a rubbish workforce who were meeting quantity not quality targets and were possibly the vehicular focus of the peoples' absolute hatred of the misery Ceacescu's regime during the 1980s I'd put the chances of them surviving in any numbers past 1989 as limited and the possibility that they exist in anything about low three figure numbers as being less likely than finding an honest politician.

Fook knows what they are saying but I've found a thread on a romanian car forum about them;

To be fair not more than a couple of hundred at most were ever made, all of which were official cars for senior officials, 3 or 4 per county and a few more in Bucharest. They were introduced after a 1979 decree which made the State sell off all of its cars bigger than 2-litres - which resulted in all the interesting Jags, Mercs, Jeeps and Oepl Admirals being sold off, as well as a lot of Volgas. After the Revolution some Dacia 2000 models ended up being cabs for the Intercontinental hotel in Bucharest. Estimate about 10-15 survivors. None in museums as Romania does't have a car museum; and they were never exported. It's not gone the way of a few other Romanian cars into total extinction but not far off...

Interesting. I guess it was part of Ceaucescu's drive for complete independence, and a chance to make a few quid by flogging the posh cars!

Surprised they have no motor museum though, they seem quite proud of the old Dacias.
