If you're wanting a really convincing chrome, then the Moltow Liquid Chrome pens everyone bangs on about on Youtube are every bit as good as they look, you can't tell the difference between it and the chromed parts on the kit and I'm seriously impressed by it.  For most of the trim, I could just use the pen straight on the car, some bits I needed to blob some paint out and use a paintbrush, and some areas I need to redo where I managed to mess up, which is for my final round of fettling on this.

I've made the decision to avoid chasing perfection.  In a way, it being an ordinary spec car has helped hide the imperfections a bit which also makes me feel better about the whole thing. Main weakness is definitely the bodywork, I find it pretty much impossible to keep dust out of the paint and I'm not very good at polishing the paint without going through to the plastic, so I definitely need practice on that side of things.

I also learned that the Revell water slide decals are of the more annoying variety because they're quite stiff, so getting them to conform to the shapes of the dashboard was annoying.  There are potions you can buy that soften the decals which I think would have helped.  I'm not to fussed, the interior is quite difficult to see so my less than perfect application isn't too obvious.  I'm just happy that it looks good on display, and doesn't really look like a kit even though it's not quite finished.  I've got small details like side markers, a bit of chrome detailing, hubcap emblems, and that sort of thing to do.  Then a final clean all over to make it look its best for fancy photos.

I'm looking forward to finding out what my friend finally does with his half, he won't tell me beyond the fact he's picked out what he's using and has already dismantled and cleaned stuff, so we'll have to wait and see what he comes up with.

Hooked out my boyhood collection from the roof. Only kept a very few boxes. One or two later additions but mostly 1968-78. Trying to track down the ones I destroyed which is a bit of a long list.

That's an enviable collection, and very nicely displayed. Good job, chap.

I'm in a similar boat, as I'm also trying to track down some of the toys I 'modified' with a claw hammer and bench vice when I was about six, for my 'toy scrapyard' (I was very into scrapyards). Those that were spared that onslaught later received some most interesting custom paints jobs involving Humbrol/Tamiya paints, including the glazing. In despair at my younger self, I sold them all last year as restoration projects. I know...

Consequently, I'm starting afresh by collecting up the Corgi/Matchbox/Bburago catalogues of the era to jog my memory, before starting to look for particular models - both those I owned, and those I wanted to own but never did.

If there's anything you're looking for in particular, I'd be happy to keep my eyes peeled on your behalf.

Four more to be exact.

Seemed a shame not to tidy them up.

Of course they were missing the rear tailgate,so I fashioned some out of plastic!

I have eight of these now!!

Only one has come into my possession with its original tailgate intact!

i've had a couple of new additions to the collection.

first off, a massive slab of Detroit's finest land yacht. though been the 1961 model year '62 series, this one got the smaller tail fins.well smaller than the 1959's were. a couple more model years and the tail fin would be no more...

next i bought this, one of Ford's "3 Graces", a mark 1 Ford Consul. this is an early Corgi (1956-ish i guess that was about when Corgi car's started) complete with (working-ish) friction drive. not that there is much drive from it, as it can bearly pull itself along, never mind adding to it the weight of the diecast car!

then to go with the British and German dispatch riders i got a while ago, i have managed to add an american Sherrif riding a Harly Davidson to the mix. as with the other two, this is 1/32 scale.

and finally, mainly cos it was cheap. and cos it really appealed to me, this, a Dinky Hawker Hunter. the Hunter is i think one of the most perfectly formed aeroplanes ever built. the chap i got this off also had a Gloster Javelin, which at the time i bought the Hunter it didn't appeal, well come forward a few minutes i thought, what the hell, it'll be nice to have that and the Hunter.... AGGH NO TOO LATE!!... someone else had bought it, so something else for me to keep an eye open for!

Eclectic and entertaining selections there Jo; however the Cadillac (you just knew I would do this, didn't you?) is a 1961 model, not 1960.  The 60 had the "Panoramic" windscreen, same as the 59.  I have the same 1961 Dinky doubling in my collection for the 1962 sedan I owned before we went to Cyprus.

Yeah I know, pedantic!  Don't let it take away from your enjoyment of these delicious models though!

Somewhere in my mothballed collection I have got a Vickers Viking, a small 4 engined flying boat, a Tempest and a DH106 Comet, all Dinky and more or less intact but very play-worn because I've had them since new.  I do also have a small Javelin but it is plastic, possibly by Frog.  The much later and much larger Corgi diecast aircraft are rather nice and I've got several, together with some similarly large plastic airliner models.  The trouble is that my limited space in display cabinets is being hogged by aircraft, leaving little space for cars, hence their long term storage in plastic containers under my bed.

Engine is as done as I can be bothered with because I managed to break the other half of the axle and had to fix that.  I hate how delicate this model is.

post-5335-0-13939500-1552859350_thumb.jpg

Front and rear screens are in and the chrome that it's going to get is now all on.  Front bumper has been lightly modified. and I still need to age the chrome quite a bit.  I did debate leaving the bumpers off since they rarely seem to survive, it just looked nicer with them so I stuck them on.

Honestly, the only thing saving this model from going in the bin is that I quite like how the bodywork has turned out.  It's been very little fun to build.

Satin varnish, then various washes and dry brushing, then rubbing through all the weathering with a bit of purple meths on paper towel which seems an effective way to take off the acrylic paint without taking off the original chrome on the parts.  It's a slightly experimental approach since I've only tried it on scraps of sprue so far.
