Shite in Miniature II

Hmmm, I wonder.  Certainly in the world of slot car stuff, I get the impression that Americans are trying to airbrush the '70s cars out of existence.  Behold my extensive choice of full size chod that you won't find anywhere else.

1972 Charger.  Because unless it's a '68 or '69 nobody is interested

charger24.jpg

Even in Petty racing spec it gets hardly any interest

1972 Cadillac.  LA Police could have saved themselves a load of trouble in the '70s and just arrested every owner of a black Cadillac

1977 Pontiac LeMans

1972 Lincoln Continental and AMC Matador

Bring out a '50s car and everybody loves it because it's got chrome, tailfins and rock 'n' roll.  60s cars are tough, moody and mean.  70s cars?  Sorry, the US didn't make anything in the 1970s, they were away that decade.

I so wish I had room for my Scalextric, I'd be ordering some of those!  I wonder how easy it would be to convert that Cadillac into a 1973 Coupe deVille?

I'm after that Mr Bean Mini. There's a Poundland near my work that usually has some good MBX in stock, got the Volvo V60 last week.

Mine has a sticker saying "Exclusively for Asda",the same as the Ford Panel & '59 Chevy posted by Junkyarddog  :-(

And I've bought one for two quids and a postage bit. I did wonder why there people bidding on one and it was at £6.50 when just a bit further down the page there were several with much lower 'buy it now' prices. Possibly they is idiots.

Is it just me or is the centre bit of that LM002 far too short?

Still, for a quid it's fair enough.

Seems to be cartoonish proportions.

Matchbox have a correctly scaled one in their lineup ATM, seen it in Poundland.

To my utter surprise, I managed to coax this from the French:

It contains the usual half arsed mag:

Must have taken them all of half an hour to make. Oh wait, they are French, so it probably took them two weeks.

Anyway, here is the model:

However, since one can't live with just an R16, I actually got me two of them.

Bought a joblot of cars which arrived whilst I was on the road

Well chuffed with the Mantas, both mint complete with aerials and mirrors!

The others I'm not to fussed about not being a Mini fan

The Nissan is funky little thing,if it's been painted then it's been done quite well

The small Welly's are sold over here for a couple of lev in most supermarkets, along with some very oddball stuff

The coffin light mk1 Estelle is nice, it's one of those mag partworks, I do hope eventually they do a Garde/Rapid coupe. Abrex are a bit weird these days, saw a photo of a mk2 Fav estate on their website, but no sign of it in their catalogue, and tbh Abrex are getting pricey. Have a couple of bigger shots of the Estelles, plus my Lada collection. My camera doesn't seem to loke taking shots of white models :(

Abrex are currently somewhat defunct to all intents and purposes as the people who made everything for them seem to have shut up shop with financial issues.

Shame, we were the biggest Abrex retailer in the U.K. y'know.

It's not so much that they were pricey, more that they'd spent so long with so much stock heavily reduced that it made the standard releases look expensive when in reality the normal price stuff still sold really well.

  • 2 weeks later...

I bought an Abrex Skoda 136 at the Prague Technical Museum. It wasn't cheap

So, is the most Autoshite of all Bond cars the one with Marina door handles that was painted metallic bronze? I do hope so.

After lurking in the attic for years, I thought it was time I took some photos of this:

It's one of the earlier AUTOart releases, and they've come on a long way since then. Still love it, though.
