Looking into retiring a year earlier than planned. Will take a hit on the monies but I no longer care. I have had enough and feeling shit just compounds this.

The cars:

TR7 engined Toledo - staying no matter what

Daf 66 Estate - will be up for sale

Volvo 340 vario - already up for sale

Golf 1.6CL - up for sale

Beetle 1.6SR - loaner to friend if she can actually get her butt in gear.

Why the fuck should your old man pay anything towards you buying a car?

I've had probably 50 cars in the past ten years and paid for every one myself (granted I was a trader for a bit)

Pop rivet an old baked bean tin over the hole then cover in underseal.

Got to be easier than faffing around with filler.

I've got two old vans.

One of them is an absolute dream to drive. Plenty of power, quiet, comfy seats, Auto box, nice stereo. No bed in the back though, just a floor with some sofa cushions thrown on.

The other van is slow, quite noisy and slowly gasses you as you drive it, but it's got a nice big comfy bed in the back, a bog and pissing hot and cold running Wifi.

Tomorrow they're both going to be driven to Robin Hoods Bay - I'm driving one of them, then sleeping in the other one. Our lass has arranged the whole trip out with her mates, so there's no prizes for guessing which combination of slow noisy van and old sofa cushions on the floor I'll be blessed with.

I have been watching 'Swedish Rally' yootoobs lately... They cover 2017 events with oldie cars.

Quite a few 2door 244 shells (scene tax = escort 2d) and they are rare in UK spec.

Not this again

Problem I find, and I have had similar experiences is.

I tell my son exactly whats happening.

He hears some of it and forgets the rest.

We do whatever it is.

Something comes up. He blames me, I blame him, we argue.

He insists it's my fault because it was my idea in the first place.

I insist he doesn't listen in the first place.

We fall out.

Day after we carry on as though nothing has happened.

Repeat for the last 16 years.

Roles are now reversed.

I let him tell me whats happening and I don't listen.

We actually do understand one another and get along quite well, but we are very alike and we know it.

You're 21, living with mummy and daddy, and acting like a bit of a spoilt prick of a 15 year old. Maybe show your dad a bit of gratitude and get on with enjoying the car he's just bought you.

Otherwise ship out and let your folks enjoy their house and money together. Christ.

Old man goes with you to view Rover.

Old man lets you use his recovery to get rover home when it shits itself.

Old man helps you fix rover.

Old man lets you have the money from the sale of his Audi to buy your Volvo.

Old man goes and inspects Volvo for you.

Old man drives Volvo home for you.

Old man is a cunt and a right skinflint. Does sound like you've been fucked over to be fair....  Wish I had a few more mates who were such utter fuckers.

I don't know why I keep commenting on this soap opera. I'm angry at myself even for doing so!

ETA: Less about your Dad, more about your nice new car, please :)

I must admit I missed all of that soap opera.

That said, ALL Dad's are notorious bodgers.

My dad tried (in 1989) to flog me his Y reg BASE BEIGE Seirra estate with 130K on it, which he'd had from new and during that time had bodged the front cross member rust, with glass fibre, and bodged the bottoms of the doors with filler and rubber matting glued to the bottom.  He wanted £700 for it.  Obviously I now regret not buying it and storing it in a barn for 28 years.

He gave it to my sister the following year. I'm not sure why I was expected to pay and she wasn't. She even got a lifetime warranty with a courtesy car. Bodging B'sturard ?

Last year he offered me a 59 Reg 1.8 petrol Focus Estate titanium with 90K on the clock, for £4K. He'd put a rusty wood screw and a little piece of wood on the top of the dash to stop the spring loaded storage flap opening.

I declined it due to it being manual. and NOT free.

The millennium falcon (sorry I don't normally do car names but it came to me on the peripherique) has touched down in Reims. Lovely town and a really nice rustic non chain hotel. Stopped off at the Le Mans museum and perved over their martini 917LH. Now enjoying a beer. I really like this merc (translation- I will sell it in 2 weeks no doubt)

The Skoda Favorit freeway (the one that's been about on ebay for ages) has finally sold to a Favorit licker, and should now be saved (she has 3 now)...I think this counts as good news as they are virtually extinct.

Passenger side Hydragas pipe removal on the Princess.  Urgh.  Have to partially drop the rear axle and remove the schrader valve at the front for clearance to drop the pipe off the car.  I'd been warned this is one of those jobs you don't do unless you have to and I can see why now.

I appreciate what you're saying, and I do have trouble with filtering myself, but I have very good reasons for living at home, life hasn't been running as smoothly as possible for me, I think is the simplest way of saying it. I have a job, I earn my own money, and I'm doing my best to get by. Home life isn't the easiest thing ever due to a multitude of reasons, and I'm not going to go into detail on a public forum about why things are the way they are, but it's really not as simple as what I write here. I have a great deal of resentment towards the person I have to call my dad whether I believe he's worthy of that title or not, and my mother is mentally ill, you could argue that I am too.

I don't wish for anything else to be said about it, and I have no issue with anyone on this forum. I have my arrangements, I have my car, and that's that. Let's leave it at that.

Just saw a Mazda 323 BF in the centre of Cork. In three days in Ireland, its by far the eldest car I've seen in use away from the Toyota show. Very poor Shite spotting. No pic because shit camera phone.

However, I did find this outside a wine bar some hours ago. It's still there.

Ireland is not old-car friendly.  Insurance and tax are absurd on anything over ten years old.  Not sure if it's the same both sides of the border, but it's certainly no fun if you want to run an older car daily there.

HMS LEXBARGE IS REPORTING FOR DUTY!
IMG_3167.JPG

After 8 months in storage (a family friends barn) and the only check up it's had was said family friend making sure the barn was intact...it started first time, with just a wee bit of spluttering.
Forgot just how quickly it gains speed with little effort, and how comfy she is.

Will be giving it a proper check over when at work on Monday, just to be 100% everything is okay still, just for peace of mind.

Was trying to find out more on the Irish tax rules and over 30 years old it's actually very cheap.  It's the 10-29 year old bracket that seems to get hammered.

From a Renault 11 thread over on the blue: http://forum.retro-r...enault-11-gtl-1
"Indeed. Welcome to the rip off island nation where they keep telling us our taxes are lower than most of Europe as if it's some sort of excuse or consolation for dumping on the common tax payer... Yeah sure I believe you Mr. Kenny... I was insured for €550 at the age of 23 here in Ireland on the R11 before it was a classic. I went to NY for just over 3 years, came back and they chose to ignore the fact that I was insured over there and the only company that would quote me on a 1999 corolla (AXA) wanted €2200 for insurance alone. Everybody else said me and the car were too high risk for them to even consider! I'm nearly 28 with no convictions and 9 years on my licence! Yes a silver bug-eyed unloved cockroach shaped liftback Corolla was high risk. That and the €514 in tax for a piddly 1.6l engine. Don't even get me started! Oh and lets not forget the NCT! Tell me it's not biased after you bring a car over 15 years old in and the test takes 45 minutes as they tap every inch of the car looking for nonexistant filler when a five year old car goes through in under 15 minutes with barely a second look and most things seemingly skipped over.
People of the UK and USA, you are very, very lucky!"
