The beavertail I'm hoping to book for Bluebird collection is having its MOT today. I'm rather hoping it passes so I can book it for a day next week. Only problem is the need to drive to London and back in a day. I think I'll aim for plenty of stops. It'll be about 480 miles.

480 miles, it will be a breeze compared with 2CV!

AX in for an MOT today, fingers crossed. M223THG if you're wondering. No advisories last time, but it's started making a clicking sound on the O/S front when accelerating and going round a tight(ish) bend. Seems to be rust free though... suppose I'll find out.

So the Fiesta went in for its water pump changeing and got picked up 3 hours later with it not being done.

They'd rung me to say they thought a bolt would snap so didn't want to carry on. Gave me the number for a bloke that came and does 'all the shitty jobs' if it actually snaps.

Gave him a ring and he's just been round. Says it's dead easy as even if it does break it should be stuck out but he thinks the over heating is a blocked radiator.

Its a never ending story of stupid cars here at the moment so it can bugger off as it's my birthday and I'm on holiday Friday.

VW LT, so almost as agricultural! Probably a bit quieter at motorway speeds though. Just. Monday is my birthday, and I can't think of a better way to spend it. Well, ok, I have some ideas, but it's still pretty good.

My caliper turned up today! It's cleaner in some places and less so in others (the main piston seal is torn but the piston itself looks ok). Hoping I can swap the seal around from my one.

It's raining heavily all day, and amy worked last night so will be tired tonight, hopefully if she sods off to bed early I'll get the garden parasol out and get on with it, otherwise it'll be another day of seized caliper tomorrow!

This slightly green Rover 45 belongs to a colleague and has been sat in a local garage's yard for most of the last year.  MOT has just run out, looks very tidy and had just had the head gasket done - only 56k on the clock, too.  1.4 K series, new front tyres.  Apparently, after the head gasket was changed the engine started 'knocking' and he gave up on it, dumped it at the garage and obtained another car.  I'm tempted to make a slightly insulting offer for it but it depends what the 'knocking' is - I find it hard to believe it could be the bottom end at that mileage unless it had so much coolant in the oil it's knackered the engine.  I'd like to think it was injector noise which these are apparently known for but who knows.

I might see what he wants for it and stick a battery on it so I can hear the noise myself, could be worth a punt although these things still seem pretty worthless.

On the other hand, it's currently keeping exceptionally shitey company.

attachicon.gif20170211_144208.jpg

So, now been offered this for free, hard to say no really.  It may of course be quite broken but that's still a few spare parts and a front seat for my van if nothing else.  Going to go and have a look after work on Friday with a spare battery to see how bad this engine 'knock' is and much chance there is of getting it to my tame garage for a fresh MOT.

Despite being based in Aberystwyth, that's pretty much the first question the place hiring out the beavertail asked. The second was what car, because they actually care what people carry.

Just sold my P6, first person to come and view it loved it and gave me close to the asking price, the only downside is that he's 84 and needs to check he can still insure it because of his first. It will go with his 1972 MGB which cost £18000 to restore!

local spottage. It lives here. May be owned by ZX/Chevette/Sierra man.

Advisory below from 2014, just passed another test earlier this month.

Vehicle is very corroded and has previously been repaired in many areas

Shiply confirmed. £1 a mile isn't cheap over that distance, but probably works out cheaper than me hiring a beavertail and driving there and back, and I don't lose a day of work!

The caliper dust boot is held in by the piston so can't be changed without taking the piston out . If the piston turns nicely and looks clean I would pack the boot with rubber grease and just fit it

Then that's what I'll do! I'll experiment with seals on the old caliper. It was cool after driving home today, maybe it's the rain...

The chassis rail on the drivers side of the cortina was fucked. Not rotten just mangled because I think the steel has thinned to the point of it being about as strong as a quality street tin.

I welded on some box section so should be nice and strong now. Well obviously the chassis rail was wider than the box section I had and the rail had a kink in it so I had to cut two bits of box in half the long way then weld them together to make a wider bit then cut them in two , fit them then weld those two halfs back together. All while rolling about on the ground. What a great hobby.

Can't be much rust left now right?

IMG_1670.jpg

Furk

IMG_1671.jpg

The gods of welding must have been looking favourably on me as I found a bit of 3mm steel exactly the right size. Wazzed it up.

IMG_1673.jpg

I'm going to stop saying that's the end of the welding.
