I fancy one of these little renners, not sure why but i've got a bit of an itch for one. Got outbid on a bargainous one last night. Quite fancy the idea of a low-powered light french hatchback for blezzing round in for a while. I would prefer a 1.1 to a 1.4.

Had a itch for one last year then when a 2CV came up for sale at a reasonable price went for that instead, wouldnt mind a first gen one.

The thing to watch with these is that they can blow head gaskets because they have just a warning lamp for the coolant temp, so the engine gets cooked since theres no warning of it.

I had a C plate 'TC' supercinq, great little car, 850cc of power, 4 speed, povo spec, not even headrests/faglighter/ashtray etc.

Reminded me of a summer hire car, and went well enough for what it was. Kinda car that makes you grin from ear to ear. Very Happy

Sadly due to some evil car theives who left a grey Cav Sri round a blind bend on a foggy night, blocking my lane of the NSL road meant that mine had an altercation with a rock embankment pretty much head on at 65mph, then a lampost, finally landing on its wheels about 50yds down the road. I walked away without a scratch, which caused the coppers who arrived to try and arrest me for the theft of the Cav, as 'no one would survive that...'

The really scary thing was, that the c*nts who caused it will have been watching. Evil or Very Mad

I've not had a Renault 5, but I've played with loads of them as a lot of my mates went through a mad R5 phase years ago.

5TS's are fun, Gordinis are brilliant, Gordini Turbos are even better. GT Turbos go bang all the time and the 1.7 litre 5s are great.

The small engined ones don't float my boat much. I don't really do city cars (says the bloke who's quite probably driving a 900cc Fiat to Czech).

I do quite like the early 'mental gearlever' R5s though.

Supercinqs are ace! 1.4 is pretty nippy although the 1.1 ain't bad either and I think they look pretty cool.

Another car on my rather extensive perfect first car list, sadly most of the ones that do crop up round here for sale are 1.4. Theres one rusting away by the side of the road in Hook.

I want rid of my '83 Mk1 5TL if you fancy an older one. Engine runs great and drives fine (it's 1108cc and five speed). Very little rust, just a bit on the RHF wing, lh door and by the LHR arch. Got a repair panel for the latter and a pair of new wings for it too. It's got virtually new tyres all round. All that's wrong with it is the tank starts to leak if you put more than a tenner in it and the heater blower is utterly rubbish. It's got Gordini instuments fitted and the temp guage doesn't work as the TL normally only has a warning light. Got the original instruments to go back in though. Lots of spare bits and bobs and an entire but rotten '73 dash shift R5 to pillage for bits too. Mot's up on the 23rd of this month but it's got tax until end of July. £170 or best offer!

I've had a couple of these, they were a right hoot, great rattley little buggers. Body roll comes in spades, but enjoyable to chuck around nonetheless. The first one was a 1995 1.4 Campus, not too bad, the second one was an '85 1.1 TL, which was brill:

Unfortunately that underseal line on the sills was hiding bodywork which resembled crepe paper.

I'd have another one of these in a shot, I'll keep an eye out round here for you _Bol.

I've really got a thing for little French cars all of a sudden. I'm currently blezzing around in a 1.1 Saxo which on paper is horrid, but is grin-inducing to drive. Flat-out everywhere gives 40mpg and despite a bit of body roll (65-series tyres and springs designed for French roads) it can be hustled down country lanes with much confidence. Does get a little bit of brake fade if you're too enthusiastic Wink

I had hoped that the Renner5 1.1 would be the same engine but Weepedia says not. Much the same philosophy of cheap, light fun though.

The red one above is the spit of the one I totaled. Forgot what a clean design they are, one of the best looking small hatches I recon.
