    • I haven't posted in here for months though I still 'lurk' enthusiastically on the main board.  I don't often sign in so I rarely see the other forum.

      If I'm still entitled to a 2p-worth it's this.
I don't like censorship or moderation in form way unless it's become absolutely necessary when many people are complaining about the direction of  a thread, or a member's conduct.
One of the great things about the AS I joined years ago was that the members basically self moderated and the management were only called into play in extreme situations. I'd hate to see even the other board be restricted in what could be discussed or how. People NEED to be able to  let off steam occasionally or share opinions that may appear extreme to some, that's human nature, and better they do it in here where they may be told in no uncertain terms they're being bellends than doing it on Faceache where all their daft mates agree with them.

    • I bought an old nail of a V40 estate a couple of years back for £300 and it lasted me the best part of a year, so they can be GR9 old bangers if bought right.

Apart from all the stuff you'd want to check on an old car the only thing I'd pay close attention to is the brakes. Volvos of all ages seem to suffer from sticky calipers so once you've driven it for a while check to see if there's any heat coming off any of the wheels. Also check the bonnet release works OK because they can fail too.
They can rust pretty badly round the arches and front wings but they tend not to be too bad underneath, but an MOT check on the website should throw up any corrosion issues.
Apart from that, just the usual listen for clunks & bangs from the suspension and check whatever electrical toys you deem important work. Heated seats rarely work after 100k of bums on them but from my experience Volvo aircon is pretty reliable, and worked a treat even in my old banger.

The 1.8GDis can develop problems but the 1.6 is a good engine, though obviously no ball of fire they'll punt along the road with the traffic no bother. They're comfy old buses, quite unremarkable in most ways but I liked mine and I'd have another if it was sub £500.

    • Junkman posted this in the ebay tat thread.  You couldn't help but look cool in this,  even wearing a sou'wester. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stimpson-Mini-Bug-Spares-or-Repair-/291825441610
